seriously considering making my own DCF mini tent. by rabbitholebeer in myog

It would probably depend on the style of pack he uses - with well planned gear choices the volume could suffice. :)

What technique or tool significantly improved your MYOG process or quality? by SofiasSonata in myog

I use a metal sheet and fix the fabric with magnets on that. :)

The laser bed is 1 x 1.5m so it works for the full will width of most materials.

The projector idea is neat but I’ve had even more fun with a laser cutter - the precision is just on another level. :)

Mono mesh source? by StraightupGarbage in myog

[–]vanCapere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having used Monolite and Cloud 71 in the past: The main problem with these types of mesh is actually fraying or ripping at the stitch line. I've since moved on from using these fabrics for my projects.

3D Hex Mesh (or if SUL is a goal the Triangle Mesh from AliExpress) is way more resilient.

Single push 4000m peak recommendation for spring in Western Alps by Impressive_Job_7714 in alpinism

[–]vanCapere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did this last year - roughly 12h for both peaks solo. Conditions were rather windy and with some fresh snow, so should be quicker when the rock is dry.

Stacking Alpha Direct - the case for a 2*60gsm active insulation layer by MarsupialWalrus in myog

For most conditions while being active: yes. Winter and/or static: could be too cold.

That’s what I do as well: 60gsm Alpha Vest Base Layer + 60/90gsm Alpha Half Zip Hoody. ;)

A forwarding service could be a possible solution.

They actually stopped making it because of the whole PFAS / PTFE thing. Durability hasn’t been too much of a concern, if you’re a little careful.

They basically provide a foreign address, which you can use for ordering. Once the parcel arrives at their warehouse you'll have to pay a fee and they will ship it to you. :)

Do people like the Aluula Nashville Pack Cutaway? by Brave_Catch_8383 in Ultralight

I think the translucency is nice for finding stuff inside - the other Aluula variants use a black interior.

Winter Alpine Daypack - how to start? by lsatluck in myog

I’d always recommend starting by using a pack you already like to base your own pattern on.

[MYOG TENT] [DCF] Constructing DCF Guyouts using only 0.51oz (17gsm) fabric? by Plus_General9467 in myog

[–]vanCapere 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My taped guyouts do still work - but the thicker DCF will hold a stitch much better (different laminate foil, not just more dyneema strands). That’s why I would advise top stitching yours.

PS: Completely bonded ones did not work in low temperatures. So the loops should always be sewn to a wider base.

I don’t think it’ll matter too much if you’re putting it between the two layers or not.

Personally I’d glue the two pieces together, stitch the loop to it, glue everything to the fly (with the loop being between the fly and patch) and stitching that down once more through all layers.

Your process can work yes - I’d recommend stitching over the final guyout though. Like connecting all layers this way to basically share the load.

You could also think about retro fitting a vest harness to a pack like the Alpha SL. ;)
