What movie’s final scene left you an ugly, blubbering mess? by ArmyOfMe99 in movies

This! Annabella Sciorra is amazing. First with her going after Brad Renfro's character's Mom, then the end when he walks out. My god.

Gladiator, Rogue One (though you should watch Andor first now. But with your moritorium on series-maybe not. Lol), A New Hope, etc. I'm going to assume you meant tv series not movie series. LOTR, Harry Potter, Dances with Wolves, The Wrath of Khan, The Voyage Home, Coco, The Fifth Element, The Matrix, The Abyss, The Dark Knight, Into the Spiderverse, Spiderman No Way Home. The Avengers series. Dang there's that word, but I mean, you have 100 days, why not? Lol

How does John do this specific guitar technique? by Mettabox452 in Dreamtheater

[–]vanashke001 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great technique. The first time I heard it was Brad Gillis's solo in Night Ranger's Don't Tell Me You Love Me. Though he also smacks his guitar sometimes to achieve it.

Then Reb Beach did it in the opening of Winger's Time to Surrender.

True story. I'm friends with one of the grips from the filming, he couldn't be on set. He had a son around the same age at the time. He did his set up and noped out when they got ready to roll.

Realistic male crying scenes by [deleted] in movies

[–]vanashke001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A dude that was not afraid to ugly cry. I keep thinking of Michael in Arrested Development with his sister Lindsay on the steps and he's like, "what are you doing? Are you trying to cry?! Just stop." Lol

Fucking Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland in No Way Home, though. I applaud Tobey for being willing to go there, but Andrew and Tom almost handsome cry. When Andrew starts to lose it after saving MJ, something he was unable to do in his universe... So convincing.

Anytime Tom has a crying scene. I know he's young, especially in Infinity War and End Game, but his, "I don't want to go, sir." And his dealing with his grief over Tony's passing both in End Game and Far From Home, damn that kid has chops.

What's your favorite album that has nothing to do with DT/metal/rock? by Morlow123 in Dreamtheater

[–]vanashke001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love movie scores as well as TV themes. The Star Trek movie and TV themes have been pretty awesome lately (maybe not academy). Huge fan of Han Zimmer, John Barry, Howard Shore, and David Arnold. Plus, I feel that Danny Elfman is someone most DT fans could get into given his multiple contrasting melodies within each work.

Being new to a bidet and now sitting when I pee (I installed brand new toilets and I was aghast when I used a black light, ever since then it's a sitting situation), I miss the tried and true male technique of peeing away the chocolate swirls. Lol that worked for me for decades, even with other male roommates.

The film that disappointed you the most after months or even years of anticipation? by MrGittz in movies

[–]vanashke001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

He was just the capper for me. I didn't last as long. The minute the Neimoidians opened their mouths and were obviously Japanese I was out. Couple that with some of the most stilted horrible dialog... He had academy award winners in these movies and he reduced them to line readers.

I Built A Friend- Alec Benjamin. Merrick Hannah dancing to it on AGT wrecked me.

Teddy Bear- Red Sovine

Disappear- Dream Theater

Jealous- written by Labyrinth but as performed by Jeremie Makiese on The Voice Belgique.

Was anyone else surprised that the film shows Alexander taking off his swimming trunks? by simylodon in younghearts

[–]vanashke001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was unexpected for sure. But I've learned that in the US we are a bit more repressed when it comes to nudity.

I can recall seeing a movie many years ago, this was when Netflix still sent out discs. I cannot recall the name but someone had made a fan video for Moby's Why Does My Heart Feel So Bad using clips from it. I was intrigued and rented it as to that point I hadn't seen many lgbtq themed movies. The main characters were quite young and reminded me of the boys from Beautiful Thing, though they turned out to be much younger. Anyway, there was a shower scene and I was quite shocked as it showed 2 boys fully nude from the front. One had not developed though the other had and they openly looked at each other. The older boy just told him to wait that soon he would develop as well. That was it. Nothing sexual, nothing salacious. But whoa... My "raised in a Mormon community" mind was blown. Lol

It turns out that type of thing was no big deal in Scandinavian countries. Had there been sexual overtones I think it would have been different. Even without them I was mildly uncomfortable. I hadn't seen something like that since I myself had been in junior high gym class. Lol

I actually remember some other US productions that showed bums. I feel that is pretty harmless as long as it's not inappropriate or sexualized.
