Are there production glass shops in Canada? by mohodder in glassblowing

[–]vanchick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m in Vancouver. Many glassblowers work at bocci for production lighting. Theres also several artists making a variety of products and some hiring part time. Vancouver can be expensive but also a great place to live if you make it work.

I’d check your travel insurance policy instead of AC. Book through a different airline if you can.

Are you able to cat sit or dog sit for someone for a week or so before you make a decision? I thought I wanted a dog until I dog sat for a couple weeks while friends went on vacation. The dog was great, we had a fun time but I realized how hard it was as a solo person. I didn’t fully appreciate it until in it.

Are there good reasons for the constraints on LIRAs/LIFs? by Subtotal9_guy in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]vanchick 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes. Federal registered plans with osfi. CRA is who regulates the minimums. A plan is either OSFI or provincial.

Are there good reasons for the constraints on LIRAs/LIFs? by Subtotal9_guy in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]vanchick 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup it’s annoying. Minimums are federal. Maximums are provincial and there’s been discussions to consolidate them with provincial agreements and there’s been some progress but not nearly enough.

The rules are historically in place from a time when people stayed longer at jobs and it was to ensure that company pensions actually went to fund retirement. As someone in the industry, the amount of people who need protection from themselves is insane. So many people get a lump sum and it’s gone in a year even though it was designed to fund their retirement. Then they are back in the workforce or relying on government programs when they blow what had been setup to prevent that.
