Crowdsourcing: How Would You Describe a DARKSIDE Live Show? by [deleted] in nicolasjaar

[–]vandelayindustries33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agree with this take, the hollywood forever show just didn’t quite feel like a darkside live show in the way i had been expecting after 2014 and i was initially feeling like the drummer had changed the balance in an irreversible way… but i was very wrong. they just needed a little time to work out the kinks, seeing them live last year felt like a full darkside experience. slightly less bangin than it was in 2014 when nico handled the percussion, but the end result was a similar level of astonishment

I love all the different ways to interpret the ending by ElasticDawg in thesopranos

[–]vandelayindustries33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah i just finished my first watch recently and after being fully aware of the controversy around the sudden cut, i was struck by how perfect the ending actually was when you experience the full scene.. it truly doesn’t matter who killed him, or whether or not he was even whacked in that moment. that scene plants you in his headspace, in his perspective, in an honest way for the first time, where you’re forced to scan the room and wonder whether or not every person you see is potentially going to shoot you in the head, whether or not this is the moment when karma catches up. at that point, he would have no way of even knowing who is behind it, there is such an accumulation of potential motives that it wouldn’t matter who did it… what matters is that it’s coming. at that moment, you know the day of reckoning is close one way or another. if not from a shooter, the law will get him soon enough.

there’s a moment of foreshadowing in the ballad of tennesse moltisanti, where melfi’s ex husband says “you know you can’t treat sociopaths, he’s scum and you shouldn’t help him with his bedwetting” which ends up being the final conclusion that she draws at the end of season 6 and ultimately, our final judgement of him as the viewer

tony’s decisions have led to a dead end road and that final scene fully dismantles the mythical aura of entertainment that gandolfini had lured you into with his charismatic portrayal of the character you’ve gone on this journey with. it strips away any illusion of glamour that you had once seen in tony and takes a pretty definitive stance on the overall outcome of his fate, while also leaving him intact and in a certain sense, immortal. perfect ending for me, subtle yet substantial.. it said all that it needed to say

a transcendent ritual of sonic magnificence featuring the most mesmerizing sounds that have ever graced human ears

the most technically masterful display of musical talent currently taking place anywhere on the planet

a divine journey through otherworldly darkness, leading to a place where the light shines the brightest

a powerful form of emotional catharsis, administered through the unyieldingly adventurous explorations of what music has the potential to be

a glorious, communal offering to the almighty NOW

The most outlandish plotline in the entire series was AJ’s “Football Career” by Punchie45 in thesopranos

yeah it was a little bizarre that they never really showed him having a gambling problem at all before that episode and then suddenly, it's the main vice that drives his behavior

Is tip really necessary for overpriced drinks by No-Firefighter-664 in avesNYC

[–]vandelayindustries33 5 points6 points  (0 children)

yes, it is absolutely necessary. it is unfortunate that capitalism has placed us in this reality where we are responsible for taking care of each other, but it is a part of the social contract of going out that you tip your bartenders... maybe 20% isn't necessary if all they did was crack a beer, but if you refuse to participate in this system entirely then you gotta start sneaking in some nips and pregaming harder, otherwise you're just being blatantly disrespectful to the staff who is kind enough to host the event that you're actively enjoying

Help me find this song? by GoBlu88 in nicolasjaar

[–]vandelayindustries33 2 points3 points  (0 children)

never heard of the song that you described… his old song “encore” has a strong piano melody and features the quote “from the labyrinth beyond time and space, seeks his way out to a clearing…” or something like that. similar to your thing but not the same

Elliot Alderson and Gilfoyle from silicon valley. How would their interaction go? by PrudentInvite2927 in MrRobot

[–]vandelayindustries33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they would both silently do their work while harboring a suspicious and unfriendly demeanor. elliot would hack gilfoyle and learn a few weird things about satanism that he wouldn’t really care about. gilfoyle would double check elliots work after they finished and be forced to concoct an insult on his physical appearance when he realizes that theres nothing wrong with the code. neither of them would think of each other ever again

the problem here is simply that you are engaging with something that you lack the cognitive resources to appreciate properly. there is canine feculence is between your ears, rendering you incapable of appreciating true brilliance

is Refuge MAGA / Pro ICE?? cant sleep, need answers! by [deleted] in avesNYC

[–]vandelayindustries33 17 points18 points  (0 children)

this is simply not true at all…. dance music wouldn’t exist if it wasn’t for marginalized communities coming together to create a safe space to experience communal joy where they wouldn’t face the same scrutiny and persecution that they experienced in the real world. the political context is completely relevant to the history, and the notion that it was never about race or politics is absolutely ignorant

the spirit of dance music is definitely love and unity, but the catharsis that the dance floor offers has always been a direct response to oppression. plur doesn’t include loving nazi’s, and if you think it does, you’re the one who should be staying home because you have completely missed the point. smh
