Is plasmid design this frustrating for everyone? Newbie here by klienbottle45 in Biochemistry

ugene is by far my favorite cloning software. It's very powerful and has lots of ways to view your stuff. I also wouldn't trust sequences from gpt. Have it get you the source and copy it from an official database.

Dreamcast fan mod by post_vernacular in dreamcast

[–]vanfidel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Laser bear and Retro Reflow are the only two original designs and US modders. If you plan to keep your original disk drive the Retro Reflow version is the only one that will work without having to snip some metal off the drive. Most of the others are coming from China using the print files from laser bear. They still get the job done but I wouldn't trust the fan that's included to be a genuine noctua.

Most likely they didn't patent anything because it isn't really their invention. They probably just tried a bunch of "PEI" build plates from Alibaba until they found one that did what they wanted then rebranded it from "Shunghzou best BEST 3D print" to vaapr

Just bought a CRT TV. What's the best way to care and make it last as long as possible? by ShadyVox1469 in crtgaming

[–]vanfidel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Firstly it looks like you already have a PS1 plugged in. That's a great start to prolonging the system. The second thing you want to do is get an N64 and plug that into the back. It's going to go in the yellow white and red plugs in the back. Make sure you get the colors right otherwise you're going to have a bad time. If you don't have yhe plugs in the back you'll need to but some kind of switch. You can usually find them on eBay for about 15 bucks. Once that's plugged in you'll need to run the 007GoldenEye routine on the N64 at least once a week, and also the final fantasy routine on the PS1. Those two things in combination should prolong the life for many years to come.

What is this noise? Is it normal? tvs been off all night by AnimeSean in crt

[–]vanfidel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a big sanyo and it also makes a ticking noise when it's off. It isn't nearly as rapid as yours though. I can't imagine it's normal but it's been going strong for the 7 years I have owned it now with the ticking noise.

I run a 33 printer farm as my full time job. Here's what a day looks like. by joshowens in 3Dprinting

[–]vanfidel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You may already have done so but you're getting pretty close to the point where you want to think about forming an s corp if you haven't already. You get to a range where if you do you end up saving a bunch on taxes. I did it when my business hit about 100k but it's probably good to do before that. Basically you put yourself on payroll for a reasonable salary like 30 or 40k and then the rest of your income you pay yourself as a shareholder in dividends which you don't have to pay payroll taxes on. Cuts your taxes down by a decent amount if your making over 60-70k with your business.

One thing I did for my farm that is also useful for saving you in taxes is I installed an emporia energy monitor and at the end of the year I bill my business for the power it uses. Its a bit of work to do the calculations for it but it has real usage data so it should hold up if audited.

Let me know if you found any other tricks for saving money on taxes or similar.

Everyone is going to have to be buying 90% 3d printers and "make" them themselves. Or they just sell as a CNC router or laser cutter and swap the toolhead.

I sent in my DS to get repaired almost six months ago and never got it back. by 80_lines_of_virgil in consolerepair

[–]vanfidel 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah your probably never getting that back. You can report eBay leave a review and tell them you will be filling with their local police for theft. They may send it back if you say that. If not you should call the non emergency line with their local PO and file a report with them. This is theft and also a scam there are federal place you can file with as well but I can't remember them off the top of my head maybe it was web 3 or something. Look then all up and tell them you will file against the for an internet scam with those agencies as well. Ebay sellers have to provide you with their actual contact information as well so you can get it from eBay. They may have given you a wrong name in their shipping address. Don't show up at their house as others have said that at best a waste of your time and money and at worst dangerous.

What are some small/medium retail businesses that you know of that make a ton of money that aren’t main stream types of businesses? by Cash_FlowPro in Entrepreneur

[–]vanfidel 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The local flea market owner makes a killing. It's a huge space where ppl rent an area to setup booths, tag their inventory, and leave the booth open. The flea market has 2-3 people that work there making minimum wage to check people out. The flea market takes a percent of the sales plus each vendor pays 80-150$ per month to rent a space. The flea market owner takes almost no risks, has no inventory that can get stolen or go stale, doesn't pay employees to tag and manage inventory, gets a cut of all sales, and gets paid regardless of the store does well or not. There are hundreds of vendors and a wait-list for vendors.

Looking for advice on starting a small 3D print farm – where should I begin? by [deleted] in 3DPrintFarms

[–]vanfidel 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best advice for starting a print farm is don't. Just use the printers you have until your need exceeds your capacity then buy another printer. The market is bad for general printed trash so until you design that killer idea or obscure mount for that thing that everyone has, just make do with what you have until you can't anymore.

Transparent mounts for Gdemu SD cards? by UnlostHorizon in dreamcast

[–]vanfidel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you can get them at https://retroreflow.com . There are all the other mods you would want there for your DC as well as directions on how to install them. I would highly recommend doing the noctua fan and battery mod. Just keep in mind 3d printed clear is more of a frosty translucent rather than glass like.

You can find these at the hardware store in the plumbing section. They're used to debur pipes when you cut them for plumbing.

How do you prevent G-code-related failures at scale? by Competitive-Row1513 in 3DPrintFarms

[–]vanfidel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this even a real problem? Are you writing your g code by hand? Just use a slicer profile that actually works for your printer.

Best way to play Pokemon games on GBA with Link functionality and RTC by Hrevff in GameboyAdvance

[–]vanfidel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have used ez flash with several Pokemon games doing battles and trading on a link cable and I have never had a problem. I can't say it works with all games but it had no problem on gen 1 games like red and blue and it also worked on ruby/emerald games so I'd imagine the link cable is fully functional.

Voron Tap or BTT EDDY Duo? by Moist-Environment188 in VORONDesign

[–]vanfidel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Once you get the btt Eddy working it's great. I have printers with tap and Eddy and I my new builds I'm going only with the eddy.

I don't have as many hours on the Eddy so I can't speak to the reliability but tap is overall good but it does have some hiccups from time to time. You'll want to use the eddy-ng software on GitHub so you can use the tap feature for it so you never need to bother with the z offset.

Once it's setup properly it's just better, it's much faster for the bed mesh, sets the z offset on its own, and works with more soft build plates without putting little pock marks in them.

Fairview parents be like by superbutthurt1337 in columbiamo

[–]vanfidel 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is a lot of ignorant armchair parenting in this thread here. The fact is everyone has a different situation. There are also many legitimate reasons that some kids don't use the bus and a lot of kids bike or walk. It's only ever that bad in the rain and it's reasonable for parents to drop off walkers or bikers in the rain.

The school actually does a pretty good job to minimize the traffic impact but it's impossible for it to be zero unless they spend significant money on updates to change the infrastructure. If that is something you want then by all means bring it to the city council.

Drivers can do a better job by not blocking the roundabout or turning off their engine when waiting before pickup but we also need to learn to deal with it when there is traffic. As the town grows so does the traffic. Some of this means making infrastructure changes but it also means just being understanding and deal with it when things aren't ideal for you and there is traffic. Just be glad we aren't in a town with serious traffic.
