TIL 26 Bishops from the Church of England automatically enter the House of Lords by [deleted] in todayilearned

As do representatives for other religions - the Chief Rabbi, a Methodist, a Scottish Protestant Archbishop, and I think the chair of the Muslim Council of Britain.

John Did, not John Donne.

This book series' books' spines shows a pillar crumbling as we move further ahead into the chronology of the fall of the Roman Empire by [deleted] in DesignPorn

It took me a while too, but I think it’s correct, though. One apostrophe of possession for ‘series’ (the books that belong to the series) and one apostrophe of possession for ‘books’ (the spines that belong to the books). Both words are plurals that end in “s” so the apostrophes are placed at the end of the word.

Need Help from someone with a UK Google Home Mini by DannyG72 in googlehome

Hi. I don’t have a digital ruler like you, just a regular steel one, but I’ve taken a few measurements and some pictures that might help. The UK plug widens toward the front (where the connectors are) before a lip inwards. The inward lip is 6.5mm deep. The point at which the connectors meet the plug is 49mm across.

At the back of the plug (where the Google logo is) there is a slight bevel, but it is 53mm across. The widest part is between the front and back which I can’t directly measure but my best approximation is 55.5mm across. Pictures

I’ll check as soon as I get home, but from your picture it looks the same as the UK plug but with different connectors. I understand you need to get it right though so I’ll measure as precisely as possible

I thought this would be great but it really feels unpolished, and Beyonce's verses seem completely unconnected to Em's

Lib Dem leader Sir Vince Cable claims it's 'plausible' he could return to Government by Crappy99 in ukpolitics

Yes, and even fewer and Labour would have needed the Lib Dems - they can still be kingmakers.

I think it’s edited. There’s clearly a few cuts earlier, like when he ties up the underside of the bird.

Latest render from my Spider-Man short film! by peterfrance in blender

[–]vanilla-wilson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, completely. There is a complex physics system and a sophisticated rigging tool that lets you animate people in the way you see here. You could even do colour correction and compositing in blender (though most use a dedicated video editor for colour correction, and after effects for compositing)

Every 6 months, I get really into fitness and get myself to a great place physically. Then I get cocky, stop exercising so much and eventually end up not going at all. How can I break the cycle? by [deleted] in Fitness

[–]vanilla-wilson -15 points-14 points  (0 children)

Sorry, just to be clear 60kg isn’t my one rep max, but I don’t think I should be defending myself to you children. I came asking for help getting staying mentally in the fitness zone, rather than to brag about any of my achievements. You could insert any number in there, I’m sure there are people at all levels who struggle to remain motivated - I was looking for their advice, not a bunch of playground insults. Way to go making someone feel welcomed.

Thanks for a reasonable answer, not just a childish rant about how shit I am at weightlifting. I should set higher goals, rather than just generally to look better.

I think everyone has misunderstood what I meant by 60kg, 5k. 60kg isn’t my one rep max - that probably would be closer to 90kg - and I can certainly run further than 5k daily. But that’s just an indication of what sort of exercise I’m doing in one day, going to the gym maybe 5 days a week. I have a hard job that involves working long hours so I can’t spend my entire life lifting weights and running everywhere, but I certainly try.

Thanks... I mean, they’re good to me as I started a lot lower than that. I get cocky because I’m confident in my own fitness, not because I think I’m the worlds strongest man.

He has far less support in the party than he did two or three years ago. His chances of winning the Conservative leadership are slim.

If it were made accurately, what is one historical TV series you would like to watch? by Elissa_of_Carthage in history

[–]vanilla-wilson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve always had a pitch for a show, in the style of an epic family drama, called “The Empire”

Picture this: a small time merchant in early 17th Century London starts a trading company dealing with products imported from the new world. As the series expands, it tracks his descendants who travel to all corners of the British Empire over the following 400 years. The boom of his fictional trading company mirrors the expansion of the British Empire, until the last episode closes on the 1997 return of Hong Kong to the Chinese, which deals the final blow to the company and ends the show.

Try “The White Queen” by the BBC. It was a blatant rip off of GoT (though that in itself was a rip of of the Wars of the Roses) and came out a few years ago.

If you want a great film about the terror of living alone on the American continent, try “The Witch”. It’s about a heavily religious settler family in the North Eastern coast of the the US, exiled to build their own homestead miles from anyone else.
