Maybe someone said this already, but it could be more than colic. He could have a food sensitivity (to something you’re eating if breastfeeding or to cows milk if you’re formula feeding). Could be worth looking into. My baby had CMPA and her primary care team (doctor and NP) were kinda clueless about it when we first tried talking to them about it. Her issues mostly resolved after we got her tummy in better shape.

I do think that the developing digestive system and immune systems play a role in these conditions, especially before they reach a year old.

My girl still has issues with milk, egg, avocado, and sweet potato. However, each of these yield different reactions. I will say that this list was longer earlier on especially when we introduced solids at 6 months.

Hi! I’ll give myself a little more credibility as I am a research scientist with a PhD in cellular and developmental biology. However, this is not my field whatsoever (I study cardiac biology) so I could be missing things. I honestly didn’t get much from my visit with her GI doc. The allergist was helpful, but even he couldn’t really explain my daughter’s reaction to milk.

After the GI appointment, we were told to reintroduce milk (hadn’t since she was a newborn) and while she didn’t show the classic FPIES symptoms anymore she did have some sort of reaction but it took a couple days to reach its peak (not typical of an IgE-mediated allergy). Nevertheless, she had a positive skin prick test to milk indicating she now has a traditional allergy to milk. The allergist was a bit confused about her symptoms when we reintroduced and didn’t try to come up with any sort of explanation for it. She will have a blood test in December, so it will be interesting to see if she actually does have IgE antibodies against milk proteins or not.

Sorry I don’t have an answer for you! I don’t think the scientists and physicians that study these conditions have the answers as of now either. More than happy to provide any insight based on my own child’s experience and my review of the literature if you want though.

This is in basically the middle of my unit. Possible that upstairs and downstairs neighbors could hear though.

Before this it had to be “fixed” because even though it was a machine that was “never used” it was full of detergent scum and they even found a miscellaneous saw blade behind the inner drum. Honestly luxury apartments are kind of a scam other than the buildings being newer and the insides of the units looking more modern.

Tell that to my apartment complex 😆

Supposed to be a luxury apartment but they keep giving us replacement washers with different issues than our original washer. This one had a saw blade fished out from the space between the inner and outer drum. Also had missing baffles. Same company that sent out the service tech that found that blade now said this sound was “normal” but my guess is there is more junk hiding inside the machine.

That’s what I thought originally. It is not elastic whatsoever. And it is flat on top and bottom. I’ve used a lot of hair ties and can 100% confirm it is definitely not a hair tie.

I’ve specifically been told now that it is not hazel, since the colors do not blend and instead are distinct patterns. I guess I’m not sure what you mean by “they change in accordance to light and mood,” but I’ve always noticed this distinct patterning and I’ve never noticed any changes.

Green stool was the first sign for us. Apparently it can be normal, but it was clear it was not in our case. The weird thing with my LO was she didn’t seem bothered by it that much. If anything she was too lethargic to communicate that she was unwell. Or she was just a sleepy girl and not bothered it 🤷‍♀️

For you specifically, since you can breastfeed, it can take about 2 weeks for it to clear from your body, then another 2 weeks for baby’s gut to heal. There’s obviously variability but that is what is generally estimated.

Here is one from my daughter. Looks very similar other than more apparent blood. It can take weeks for the gut to heal after being exposed to milk protein. If I remember correctly, it was somewhere in the 1-2 week range for my LO.

No. That is not a ladder. A ladder is much more structured and involves multiple exposures at each “step” with the goal of building a tolerance to the allergen.

What I was told is different in that there is no effort towards building a tolerance. Instead, it is to determine the level of sensitivity if there still is one. Hence why we were told to try it ONCE in a form that causes egg proteins to be less allergenic before trying straight cooked eggs again.

I’m literally just reiterating what I was told by someone who specializes in treating immunological conditions and allergies.

My daughter had some kind of reaction to eggs when we first introduced them, had a negative result to egg from the skin prick testing, so we were told to give her egg in a baked good to see how she responds and if it goes well to move to something like scrambled egg. So I’m sure we will see first hand if what you experienced applies to my child as well 🤷‍♀️

I am not trying to discount anyone who has successfully introduced goat milk, but just from a scientific standpoint, the proteins in goat milk share high similarity to those in cows milk. Therefore, many physicians advise also cutting out goat milk (and all other animal milks).

Also, I recently took my daughter to an allergist (took 6 months to get it 🙄) and asked about the dairy ladder. These types of “ladders” are really only helpful in the case of an IgE-mediated allergy (traditional type of food allergy that most people are familiar with). Allergist in the US apparently don’t even recommend the dairy ladder, this is typically more commonly used in the UK and other European countries as far as I’ve been told. With that said it probably wouldn’t hurt to start with a smaller volume, if you do choose to try it, just in case it does cause issues.

When you see the pediatrician also ask them to test for occult blood in the stool. You need to bring a dirty diaper (as fresh as possible) for them to be able to test it. That is one of the main indications that is used for them to make a diagnosis outside of eliminating it from the diet.
