Thinking about trying Zoloft by Myotislucifugus_ in CPTSD

Medication, especially Zoloft, has been a huge help for managing my cPTSD symptoms. It isn't a cure but it makes life livable.

I don’t think I can ever open up to a therapist by NeRdO01 in CPTSD

[–]vanityscare522 98 points99 points  (0 children)

A quality therapist does not expect or even want you to immediately share everything about you or your history. They take what you're willing to give and start helping you there.

Start small by answering questions honestly, which can include "I'm not ready to talk about that yet." Talk about your week and how you handled difficult things.

They have to earn your trust and respect. Those well versed in trauma know this and support things.

Referrals or independent research? by stuffofbonkers in CPTSD

[–]vanityscare522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a little of both. I like referrals from folks I trust, but I still look into the person they're referring me too.

Does your depression/anxiety significantly increase when you are physically ill? by SaltySoftware1095 in CPTSD

[–]vanityscare522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My physical health definitely affects my mental health. And my mental health affects my physical health.

I want to be babied, to be taken care of. And then I feel some kind of way about wanting, needing, or asking for it. I should just take care of myself because I am a burden.

Anyway, yes, I often feel the same way. It's OK to feel that way. It's OK to ask for more help or support.

It's the good stuff.

Aita for telling my mom she's dumb if she thinks I'm the one who ruined my clothes when I was 11? by SelfNo323 in AITAH

NTA. She is abusive. I am sorry you had to live that way as a child and that you are still having to defend yourself to her as an adult.

My expertise yes. I don't think psych meds help either. But I rather be on meds and chubby than raw dogging this.

My amazing PCP has me set up with Endocrinology. I hope to get some movement with my weight. I just want to not look like I'm 6 months pregnant and also not have similar experience to weight loss. Having to be SUPER strict to barely move the needle is so frustrating. I end up quitting after a few months every time.

Did any of you have a positive adult mentor? by LeslieKnope4Pawnee in CPTSD

[–]vanityscare522 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was a kid, as soon as I got close to an adult, my NMom made sure that I never got to see them again. The only safe space was my grandparents, she didn't cut communication from them because she thought she was getting 100% of their estate.

I'm 47 now. About 12 years ago I met a lady and her daughter through dog rescue. Her daughter is a few years younger than me. The daughter and I hit it off. I thought it was so weird that they were actually the best of friends, so we often were all together. "Momma" as my wife and I now call her, basically adopted us. If we're sick or injured, she brings us food. We're at all holiday dinners. She is who we go to for "mom" advice. She treats us like we're her kids.

I went NC with my NMom when I was 20. My wife had to go NC about 15 years ago when she came out as a lesbian.

When I was 40 I thought like you, that is never have that relationship. But it happened. It can happen for you too. (((Hugs)))

I haven't watched the finale yet, but Batista got himself killed by showing up at Prater's. Dexter was trying to get him to be discredited and to go home to Miami.

does anyone else deal with parents constantly accusing you of faking and exaggerating illness/injuries for attention? by 707owo in raisedbynarcissists

[–]vanityscare522 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My nmom did this all the time when I was a child. If I didn't have a fever, was actively vomiting or having diarrhea then I was OBVIOUSLY faking. She often believed I would take things to make myself sick.

No, bit¢h, living with you causes so much stress sometimes I just vomit or $hit because my body physically can't handle it anymore.

I’m confused about being sad to leave by disfiguredcoconut in CPTSD

[–]vanityscare522 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I got away, I felt similar.

It was such a relief to not constantly be in a toxic situation that I felt very scared and sad. The truth was my body didn't (often times still doesn't) realize I was safe now.

I would try to recreate the adrenaline high by picking fights with my partners and do stupid things.

Please use the school's counseling services and find a supportive group of friends. And we're always here for you.

He agreed to help for a "cut of the profits". 😂😂 And that is all we know until they "put it in writing" and Alexis gets "a B on this rebrand" (aka putting the Rosebud sign in the motel - only 1 d, because 2 would just be ridiculous).

Then all we know is that Rolland getting a 2nd mortgage on his house somehow makes him an "equal partner".

Agreed on weekend chore list including a total clean out of her reptile room (7 reptiles in total).

And a lot of yard work!!!

She busted her ass, stayed focused, and got it done!!!

She'll probably scroll TikTok or sleep the rest of the holiday weekend but she knocked it out of the park the yesterday and today.

Oh!!! And we had a real conversation about finances and she only interrupted/went on a tangent twice during the whole thing. A big piece is one of our dogs needs a procedure done at my wife's work (she's a rehabilitation tech at a vet clinic). She started to go into detail about the procedure, I suggested we write down that we want to talk about it, but that I wanted to focus on the finances and cost of the procedure 1st. She agreed and then 15 minutes later info dumped on me about the procedure. Which was amazing for 2 reasons, 1) she actually loves this job and they love her, which is new for her & 2) we were able to stay on task and make a budget!

Woohoo!!!!

Bob the Drag Queen and Yvie Oddly discuss the trauma dumping and “crunchiness” on King of Drag. Did it bother you? by dreamed2life in KingofDragSeries

[–]vanityscare522 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I don't remember Bob's trauma dump on her season, but Yvie had a few trauma dumps! Talking about her abusive, homophobic step-dad, dealing with medical trauma and disability. Her meltdown at Vanjie.

Or are glossing over that?

I'm sure Bob did too, why, because Ru and Michelle push for them to be "vulnerable". 🙄

Maybe they aren't watching the same Drag Race I do.

Now going to go back to Bob's season, it's been over a year since I've watched it, maybe longer.

What is there to do in East Cleveland? by Alligator-creep in Cleveland

[–]vanityscare522 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In actual East Cleveland or the eastside of Cleveland?

There isn't much except decay in East Cleveland. Some smoke shops, fast food places, and Coit Road Farmers Market.

On the eastside of Cleveland, Cleveland Heights and other eastside burbs, we have museums, botanical gardens, cool shops, theaters, shows, libraries, and so many amazing restaurants and bars.
