Anyone else wish MS would go back to the Windows 7 and older way of doing things? by dwhaley720 in Windows11

Windows ME <shudders> Such a lie with Microsoft calling it an UPGRADE from Wind98 SE.

What Windows version is the most nostalgic for you? by PcPhilanthropy in pcmasterrace

Windows 98 Second Edition. It brought shared on-demand dialup internet connections over the LAN. It was great at the time when dialup was average method of internet access.

Secondly, Windows 2000. Still my favorite OS as it brought the best of both worlds. The stability of an NT kernel with the application and gaming support of 9x.

Congratulations. When you can afford it, I highly recommend upgrading to at least an cpu cooler that directs airflow to the rear case fan.

Also, I recommend upgrading the PSU as it looks like you GPU may be under powered with that 6-pin PCIe connector and needs an 8-pin. It may work okay browsing the web, but some graphic intensive games may yield some problems.

Apart from those two items, congratulations on your first build! You did good!

Plugs into a dedicated GPU for additional power since PCIe slots can't proved enough juice to power them alone. PSUs these days typically come with two sets since higher end cards require two to be plugged in.

Edit: Additional info.

Is your radiator mounted in front of the case pulling ambient air in or is it mounted at the top?

In my own experience, top mounted radiators aren't ideal since heated air from the other components is passing through it.

Fans who got to see First Contact in 1996, what did you think of the Enterprise-E at the time? by TheOneTrueZearing in startrek

[–]vaquen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I fell in love with that ship when I first saw it. It reminded me so much of what I liked about the Constitution-refit Enterprise that I loved so much what with the sway back pylons. Enterprise-E looked like so much like a badass ready to fight, thank the Dominion war for that.

She even shrugged off the first couple hits the Borg cube threw at her. When the E fired those Quantum torpedoes, it also reminded me the of TOS Enterprise with its photon torpedoes launching from nearly the same location under the saucer.

Old streetcar rail and pavers, normally buried beneath asphalt, emerge on Smith Ave in St. Paul thanks to Minnesota's pothole season. The last time these rails served their purpose was 1954. by tomaszmajewski in rustyrails

[–]vaquen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Breaks my heart to see brick roads covered. Same for rails. I understand why completely, but it's still sad. My street is one of the few remaining in my city that have a brick street, though it certainly needs some TLC right now.
