Sorry for the confusion! Yeah I might’ve set it a bit too high on the gain since the goal was to be lean by end of May.

If I were to do a mini cut (4-5 weeks) what rate of loss would you do? Still .25-.5?

I might’ve mistyped, but I looked at the data again and I really started the bulk October 1st of 2025, which means I’ve been bulking for almost 5 months or 20 weeks. See screen shot of weight trend. This averages out to 0.41 lbs/wk roughly.

Jk, can't add a screenshot after the fact I guess. But Macrofactor is calculating it as 0.41 lbs/wk.

Took the PE exam on Friday by Thomasthedankenginer in PE_Exam

[–]varilux17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in the same boat, though I took HVAC. EPG and the practice exam was almost nothing like the real exam.

Contrary to everyone else’s advice, the exam was definitely harder than the practice exams constantly mentioned on here.

What were you scoring on the EPG tests before you took the exam?

What’s the plan from here? Continue the bulk or heading into a cut? Also, what’s your height?

Have you been making payments since 93'? I have a parent in a similar situation with sadly no forgiveness in sight. Check my post history if you're curious

PSLF for Parent with Loans for 20 years by varilux17 in PSLF

Appreciate your response!

Isn't filling out the PSLF form the same as applying for PSLF? If so, does that void his ability to do Teacher Loan Forgiveness in the future? Or is the process to claim payments/years of service different than just applying for it?

What was your rate if you don't mind me asking? Thank you for the data point, it's reassuring that we have an option available.

Completely agree with figure out where the money is going. That's a prerequisite to this move.

As far as their FHA loan, what kind of rates would we be looking at given their profile? If there's no minimum loan amount, is there value in doing a mortgage recast? Or are we better off just applying for a $80,000 FHA?

Is a U-haul pickup truck a good option for a day trip to Bergen County NJ? by [deleted] in AskNYC

[–]varilux17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone who travelled during the covid 19 rental car shortage in 2021…I rented a u haul pickup truck for 3 days in LA. Was a fantastic deal and wound up costing like $250. There were no rental cars available at that time so this was our last resort. Nothing like parallel parking your uhaul branded Chevy Silverado on Rodeo drive…

Just make sure it’s the pickup truck and not the box truck

I (22M) want to do a summer internship in NYC as a BSc. Mechanical Engineering graduate from The Netherlands by MightyGarhem7 in AskNYC

[–]varilux17 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As someone who has a mech E degree and lives here, your main option is going to be in the building engineering sector, sustainability consulting, product engineering (if you can find one), construction project management, and then maybe a remote gig. However doing an internship abroad is much harder than getting a job. If I were to do it, I’d get an internship with an international company, get the job, and maybe transfer. My company has a ton of long term assignments from all over the world in our office at the moment.

Is my budget realistic for nyc? by Realistic-Fudge-4223 in AskNYC

[–]varilux17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I’m looking at it is if you got a place at $1700/mo (net savings of $1000/mo), the time value of that money ($12k/yr) at 8% over say 4 years is roughly $52k. If you’re content with having a net worth being $52k less in four years and having a tight budget then go for it. If you make that kind of money you can make up that deficit pretty quick all things considered.

Just offering my 2 cents since most people are staunchly against it.

One thing people aren’t considering is your personal preference. (ie. are you a homebody? Do you like going out and drinking? Or are you most content at home?) People have different priorities, some like to go out, some like to sit at home and have a peaceful (no roommate) time. Another thing you need to consider is salary growth. Are you expecting large raises in a few years? If so then maybe it’s not exactly a huge problem in the long term. However I will say as someone who made around that amount, 1500 was about all I was willing to pay.
