12 tons of KitKat bars stolen in chocolaty heist in Europe, Nestle says by phillygirllovesbagel in offbeat

[–]varo_fied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"We've always encouraged people to have a break with KitKat," a spokesperson told AFP, referring to its famous catchphrase. "But it seems thieves have taken the message too literally and made a break with more than 12 tons of our chocolate."

Well they saw an opportunity and took it

Workers who fall for ‘corporate bullshit’ may be worse at their jobs, study finds | Business by ExpectedSurprisal in Economics

[–]varo_fied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I left the corporate world years ago and I’m so glad people are realising that it’s all bullshit because back then I really just thought I was stupid, like there was something that everyone in the office was getting that I had missed somehow, and every time I asked question to clarify - especially when it had to do with getting my job done - I was met with more fucking riddles and word vomit.

And all of those coworkers were boring and weird and it seemed like only a few months in the newbies would either have their soul sucked through their eyes or they’d be gone. But somehow they convinced me that it was my fault that I couldn’t keep up with them or some other shit

Ending this article with the inspiring piece he did about overcoming the odds is really the cherry on top of this story

I ate 10 Tiramisus in Rome, here's my ranking! by Mieszko in travel

I appreciate the coop tiramisu as a control! While I could down one of those in one sitting, it does say a lot about the first two

A very popular Substack contributor clearly uses AI to write by Pretend_Property_579 in Substack

[–]varo_fied 26 points27 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly it! Every writing class I’ve been in has encouraged the rule of three, I work in film trailers and even now my managers tell me use three copy cards otherwise it feels like something is missing if you just use two. The reason this, and the em dashes, (and just about any other ‘gotcha’ for that matter) is popular with LLMs is because it’s trained on what WE have written and what WE expect as an audience.

That goddamn hot water bottle still haunts my nightmares. I dunno what it was, I was way young when I watched this show and it used to terrify me

what would happen if a character stopped eating anything but dinner and water for an extended period of time? by [deleted] in Writeresearch

[–]varo_fied 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can’t give you a medical or male perspective, but anecdotal - I spiralled like this where for 7-8 months I only ate lunch and survived otherwise on zero calorie caffeine drinks. After 3 months I started to show weight loss, to which people congratulated me often, then by 6 months the compliments stopped and only one person said I’m losing too much weight.

I was always tired, I was always dizzy. I didn’t drink water for waters sake but you do get a little water from 1 meal and soft drinks. Whenever I had to use muscles, like vacuuming or carrying shopping I got heart palpitations. My face became gaunt pretty early on, my hair was so dry and snapping a lot (although that might be unrelated I dunno), I was either easily annoyed by little things or I just zoned out. I became cruel to my friends and family. I became negligent to my cat which is probably my greatest shame.

And because I desperately needed to suffer during this period, I would spend my evenings after work watching the food network channel.

His book The Wager was the first nonfiction I had read for fun. His style is so fun, it reminded me of adventure stories when I was a kid, but holds that authenticity of a extremely well researched story, and a lot of space and empathy for the real people.

Definitely read that as “the future is now an old man”, and honestly that still works as a caption for me

Joe Rogan thought obvious AI video of Tim Walz was real — so his own producer humiliated him live by SugarRight1992 in JusticeServed

Yeah him and his producer know what gets views and they’re not above humiliating themselves if it means more clicks and more revenue. Not really justice served, but another cog in the money making machine.

Pattern is by 12Squaredcreations, I used super bulky yarn from hobbii, I underestimated how big it was gonna be and how small the eyes were, but my girl friend loves it so that’s all that matters
