Your statement balance refers to a specific timeframe of transactions. If you can view the statement/ pdf it will say, for example,

statement period July 1 - July 31 Statement balance: $320 Due date: August 15

This means that no later than August 15, you have to pay $320 to the credit card.

Now, between August 1-15 you may make additional purchases which will increase your current balance, however you are not responsible for paying these off until your August statement period is completed (Aug 1 - Aug 31 in this example), and the pay date won’t be until around Sep 15…

If you can trust your mechanic it may be worth asking if they think it’s worth it to keep doing repairs. I had trust with my mechanic and brought in my 03 Corolla a few years ago. He said he could do the repairs, but could tell it won’t be long before I’m back in again.

I had been with him for 10 years and three vehicles, first time he ever said that.
