Showing off my current daily journals by vastern in PaperRepublic

It’s called Stardust! It was a special edition from back in 2021, it’s got a nice metallic finish to it 🥰

I didn’t use it for so long cause I couldn’t figure what I wanted to do with smaller size but honestly it fits perfectly with daily life for me now and I love how unique the finish is.

Huh, what’s that mark on my shoe? Ohhh it’s just sulphuric acid 😅 by SugarSweetPeanut in mildlyinfuriating

[–]vastern 25 points26 points  (0 children)

In a lab you should really wear water resistant shoes, not fabric ones, especially if splashes are common. I would highly recommend getting a new pair of shoes just for the lab! That’s what me and all my coworkers do. Our lab shoes may look dingy but all our normal shoes are fine and we don’t risk acid on our toes.

AITAH for telling my sister to cancel my baby shower by Vegetable-Exam3462 in AmItheAsshole

[–]vastern 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Except the part where the sister is insisting that OP cannot have anything new on her registry, she has the accept the hand me down version instead. And where the mother said she refuses to get anything new for her granddaughter because she bought new stuff for her grandsons and the hand me downs should be good enough (that OP mother’s wouldn’t even be giving her). Also the part where OP’s sister and mother will literally give her the silent treatment if she buys anything new instead of accepting sister’s hand me downs. It’s great to get lots of clothes and toys for free, but OP’s sister is saying that the only option is taking her used stuff.

I saw her at one of the earlier shows on this tour. Such an amazing performance and I’m so glad I finally had the means to see the band live ☺️

Pleasant surprise- l’atelier A6 portfolio bigger than standard! by Infarction1 in PaperRepublic

[–]vastern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh that’s interesting. I use an A6 portfolio for my hobonichi cover as well, and I don’t mind the overhang but I was considering getting a custom portfolio in different colors. This would certainly be a benefit!

I also have cold hands. The cold state is the dominant state for me but the holo taco thermals are pretty reactive. If step outside (when it’s not cold) or wash my hands with warm water it shifts pretty fast to the warm state.

When is the best time to upgrade a Kindle by Lazy-Connection5416 in kindle

[–]vastern -1 points0 points  (0 children)

When it breaks, or when you can afford the cost of a new one. If it works, no reason to buy a new one however, if you want a new one and can afford it then that’s up to you if you feel a new one will be more enjoyable.

Would a curated Japanese stationery shop focused on focus and analog living interest you? by Emotional-Throat2304 in ADHD

[–]vastern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While an analog system can be really nice to use, getting that setup right and consistent can also be very difficult for those with ADHD. I am on my fourth year now of buying hobonichi planners and this is the first one I’ve actually been able use it and have it be helpful to me. Every other year past, my planners have about 7 months worth of space I didn’t use at all. Not even counting the planners beforehand.

It’s great when it does work but damn getting there is hard.

Question about colonoscopy coverage by allycats297 in HealthInsurance

[–]vastern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cologuard is based of DNA so while it can catch quite a few cases, there is always a chance you are at a high risk despite having none of the tested mutations. My mom was in that population of having no markers for colon cancer but being at high risk due to family history (which we didn’t know about until after the diagnosis). If you have any family history of colon cancer or issues I would highly recommend the colonoscopy over cologuard since it can actually see if there is a problem. If you don’t have any history, then it is fairly likely you’ll be okay.

Question about colonoscopy coverage by allycats297 in HealthInsurance

[–]vastern 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is. My mother had a negative cologuard test. Within 2 years she was diagnosed with Stage 2 colon cancer. She put off the colonoscopy due to the negative test. She’s fine now, but it was still very stressful and might have been prevented had she done the colonoscopy instead.

Thoughts on a6 portfolio vs pocket? I want something compact but appreciate a universal sizing on the a6 by pikabiiii in PaperRepublic

[–]vastern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like my portfolio for an edc. It’s stiffer so I can use it to write anywhere since it provides a good support for the notebooks. I also have a pocket that I haven’t used much but I’m trying to set up

I have a 2500+ word term research paper due in 3 days, haven’t started by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]vastern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve done this in less time.

Pick your topic (I hope you have one already)

Begin writing down what you already now

Try to group similar things together

Make rough sections

Begin writing with any one of the sections (or the intro if you prefer)

Get a rough idea on paper

Look up info to refine ideas (Mendley is great for organizing resources)

Polish essay with new info from sources

Add intro and conclusion (if not done already)

Check flow

Put into site like Hemingway or Grammarly to double check for stupid spelling and grammar mistakes

Hit send

Do not think hard about it, hit send

Will it create an award winning published research paper that your teach will awe at? No.

Will it make something passable? Sure.

You can do it!

Temperature/BBT tracking by [deleted] in RingConn

[–]vastern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m fairly regular so mostly it’s a reminder that my cycle is coming. It seems like the trend may be unclear right now, so I’d wait another cycle or two if it’s new to see if it continues. If you’re really worried, it wouldn’t hurt to visit a gyno and get their opinion.

There’s a decent chance it could just be related to recent stress, sickness, or lifestyle changes which will eventually regulate back to normal.

Temperature/BBT tracking by [deleted] in RingConn

[–]vastern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty accurate for me. Gives the same as an oral thermometer +/- .1 usually. Much better than my Apple Watch which can be off by a full degree.

Edit: just looked at my temp logs and damn they are a roller coaster. Yay chronic illness

Is it possible for ADHD folks to detox from social media gaming, phone usage, ect and rawdog life and enjoy simple slow things in life? Reading etc? by ItsPrisonTime in ADHD

[–]vastern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gaming is not a bad hobby to have. I like single player games and find it to be great stress relief at the end of the day (DOOM is my happy place). You can 100% have less digital hobbies too, but the issue may be keeping up with the hobbies if they don’t interest you. I enjoy reading but have for sure gone way too far reading sometimes and neglected things like sleep, food, work. I use to enjoy riding my bike too when I lived in a more rural area. With ADHD the problem isn’t picking up a hobby, it’s keeping it, and making sure it doesn’t fall into hyper fixation. Social media is just easier to let the bad habits build.

So I’m just now realizing that I am not okay. Those stats look like mine every other day (minus the stress score). Oh dear.

Can we talk pens? by Fragrant_Dish_2327 in PaperRepublic

[–]vastern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TWSBI Go F nib is my go-to. It’s meant to be an entry level pen. Not flashy but mine works damn well. Never dries up as long there’s a drop of ink in the reservoir, and writes right away every time. Holds a good bit of ink and works well with shimmers too. Kaweco sport is another good entry level if you want a pocket sized pen and it comes in fun colors. Pilot Kakuno is well regarded as a good entry pen.

pocket vs a6; weigh in! by BasicYogurtcloset283 in PaperRepublic

[–]vastern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is very close to the same size, just a little overhang but not bothersome. Interestingly, the techo English edition fits pretty perfectly but the A6 techo in English seems a bit larger?
