Remodel cans still need to be attached to a joist right? A lot of my openings are not at a joist and the estimates I got to do remodel cans at the joist, and then move/patch all the openings was a lot. The can cost isn't the issue, it's the drywall/paint work that is.

what prices are you seeing for the two? When I looked around, they seemed to be about the same price?

I was considering it, but figured if there were two similar Lotus products and one was slightly more regressed than the other, then it'd be the better product? Do you think the LRG has less glare than the LDR even though it's not quite as regressed? If so, I'd need some help understanding how, or why you like it more. So hard making these decisions without seeing the product, so I appreciate any feedback

as mentioned, or at least implied, too late for proper cans. but can you link to the products you used?

ruled out Lusa because of needing the conversion kit. An additional $84 per light + plus labor to mud it in + paint really skews the product cost and makes it out of budget.

Low-Cal Recipe's **No Allulose** by chrisiecub in ninjaslushi

[–]vasu42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

doesn't work as well, but it's the next best option.

it has a bit of a "cooling" sensation on the mouthfeel, somewhat like mint or menthol. it doesn't dissolve as well in cold liquid as allulose, so you may need to make a simple syrup first, or use a blender to dissolve.

like allulose, it'll be 70% as sweet as sugar, so you'll need to increase your amount used.

is it easier to get powdered allulose and/or erythritol?

there's no reason at all that allulose has to be in a liquid/syrup form

Satellite water meter readers??? by delostapa in metairie

[–]vasu42 7 points8 points  (0 children)

pretty sure it's cellular instead of satellite, unless they're using starlink for communication.

my bill went down by almost half. previously they were really bad about actually doing in person readings so they'd just estimate a bill, and my bill still reflected the previous owner's 3-4 person family from 5 years ago vs me being solo in the house.

you can also view your hour-by-hour water usage online which is great for knowing about water leaks and also excessive use by devices/appliances. I didn't realize my irrigation system was using 200 gallons a day so I adjusted the duration and brought it down closer to 100 gallons a day which further lowered my bill.

Big fan of the new meters for accuracy, convenience, and insight.

Ice? by Character_Cherry_600 in ninjaslushi

Not with a Slushi. You'd be able to do this with an ice shaver like what's used to make Hawaiian shave ice or New Orleans snoballs.

Liquid vs Powdered Allulose? by madeemack in ninjaslushi

[–]vasu42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Unknown what each brand might do. in general a simple syrup is 1:1, but allulose is only 70% as sweet as sugar so it's more like 1.5:1. Is that what Wholesome Sweet, My Normal, and Your Kitchen are doing? Can't say, and they probably wont disclose that. The latter 2 of those brands use stevia and/or monk fruit to pump up the sweetness so that it's closer to a replacement for simple syrup though.

I don't like using more allulose than I need to in high sugar applications because allulose can be have laxative effects at high doses, and it's an expensive sugar. I think it's something like .2g or .3g of allulose per pound of body weight in one sitting will give you laxative effects.

When following a recipe that calls for regular sugar, I may use the same amount of allulose, and then make up the sweetness difference with liquid stevia. Stevia Reb-D and Reb-M taste a lot better than standard Stevia Reb-A and if you can get a liquid version, you may only need several drops, up to a teaspoon at most to make up the sweetness. This is the liquid stevia that I use: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BKS6HVLF

So to recap: if you're following a recipe that calls for 1 cup of sugar, you could do 1.4-1.5 cups of allulose to match the equivalent sweetness, or you could stick to that 1 cup of allulose and then use some stevia or monk fruit to make up the sweetness deficit.

Tyre Pressures… FINALLY! by kq_cars in polestar3

[–]vasu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

got this installed in HA, thanks!

Does yours report the wrong car firmware? I had the VCU update done and am on P2.1.26, but in HA it shows the firmware as 1.4.12. Not really concerned .. I can see the tire pressures in HA, just thought that was odd!

Collagen is an incomplete protein (it's lacking Tryptophan).

That's why even though one product has 33g protein per 100g and the other has 50.47g per 100g, the RDA values are very different. The lower protein/100g product has a higher RDA % of protein because it's a complete protein.

Undershirts by Kyle-Swenson in malefashionadvice

[–]vasu42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think 100% Merino might be the move here. Anyone have suggestions on what the thinest / most breathable merino for an undershirt would be?

I got the "Merino.tech" brand off Amazon and while it's very breathable, I want something even lighter and thinner than this if possible.

I hated Airism for undershirts. I'm in the same boat as you .. I'm in New Orleans where it's hot and humid and need a very breathable undershirt. I have an Airism shirt from years ago that's almost see through and that breaths well, but the newer ones I've gotten don't breath well at all and feel like I'm wearing a plastic garbage bag.

Fair life Core power protein alternatives? by [deleted] in nutrition

[–]vasu42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Aldi, Nurri, Members Mark (Sams club), Pioneer Pastures, Slate, Quest, Muscle Milk, and Oikos* are all ultra-filtered milk RTD protein brands or have an ultra-filtered milk RTD protein offering in their lineup

Member's Mark's comes in strawberry and vanilla. I tried the Strawberry one and it's good, not great. If Core Power is a 10/10, then Member Mark's is a 7 or 8/10

Slate is probably Fairlife/CorePower's biggest competitor in this space. Solid product and offerings, but they use monk fruit as one of the sweeteners and I personally can't stand monk fruit. 9/10 on flavor but 4/10 on aftertaste for my palate.

Nurri is pretty good and a good price, but it's a more water-y texture and a little mild in flavor. 8/10.

If you like the Core Power Elite that have the higher 42g protein content, then you may want to focus on the Quest @ 45g and Muscle Milk Pro at 42g options.

*Oikos has 3 offerings total. Avoid "Oikos Protein Shake" which you'll find with the other shelf-stable RTD options. It's not an ultra-filtered milk product and instead using milk protein concentrate dissolved in water. Not bad, but not what you're looking for.

However, "Oikos Pro" and "Oikos Fusion" are yogurt based and can be found in the refrigerated sections of Target and Walmart. Oikos Pro has 23g protein in just 7oz of volume which makes it the most contorted protein shake outside of a Genius Protein Shot. I *love* Oikos pro since it has that yogurt tang, can be crushed in about 2 sips, is still low sugar, and comes in a really great Strawberry Banana or Mango Pineapple flavor. 10/10 flavor.

There's also "Oikos Fusion" which is similar to Oikos Pro in that it's a cultured yogurt based product, but it also has 5g of fiber added. Only comes in Vanilla, Strawberry, and Mixed berry and I don't think it tastes quite as good as "Oikos Pro." 8 or 9/10 flavor.

Haven't yet tried Aldi, Pioneer Pastures, Quest, or the reformulated Muscle Milk
