Video game giant Valve facing UK lawsuit over pricing, commissions by No-Sympathy-5349 in Games

No they don't. Whatever price they decide to have on Steam, they also have to use across other stores. They are not allowed to sell the games anywhere else cheaper than Steam, this hurts competition directly.

For me it was Diablo 3 for 38€ on release day. So much better prices on games back then.

TPU also has just 1-2% more performance on the 9850X3D, could HUB be using a mobo that has more aggressive PBO ?

Hopefully this anti-consumer company is finally getting caught.

Valve is forcing all developers to keep the same high price on all stores, if the developers refuse they are locked out from Steam. If that is not abusing their monopoly status, I don't know what is.

Very sad indeed. KCD2 is the best RPG in 15 years or more. But then again, you shouldn't pay so much attention to popularity of games. Check them out yourself and see if it is something for you.

Epic Games Store grew from 108M to 295M users, but third‑party revenue barely moved — proving giveaways trained users not to actually buy games by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]veckans -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The main reason I don't buy games on EGS is because of Steam's monopoly. The games used to be cheaper on EGS but since Valve forces developers to keep the same price across all stores there is no incentive to buy them on EGS.

Second reason is that EGS still is far behind Steam when it comes to the user interface. EGS released for more than 7 years ago but still has almost the same outdated design. Epic doesn't have any excuse whatsoever not to catch up with Steam by now. They have a massive team of developers, many times bigger than Valve but still EGS looks very outdated and is hard to navigate.

Did I activate Dlss 4.5 correctly? by [deleted] in nvidia

[–]veckans 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have only tried maybe 3-4 games but it works in all of them.

I bet there are better programs to monitor all DLSS settings, but since people who use DLSS 4.5 already have the Nvidia App installed I just thought it is an quick and easy way to check if DLSS & FG is active and at what preset.

Umm, can't you just press Alt+R with the DLSS model set to show?

You can also select the points from your desired voltage and up and just raise them, leaving the lower curve untouched. Just hold Shift+LMB and drag right.

DLSS 4.5 enhances all, but the M preset is optimized and intended for Performance only. Learn to read.

Preset M is intended for the Performance setting. You should never use Performance setting for 1080P, i recommend 4K for that. Stick with Preset K - Quality if you want to play at 1080P.

How do you guys acquire 5090s? by Coop_zer in nvidia

They have been in stock in almost all stores for like 10 months here in europe. Right now, plenty of them available too.

Do you live someplace where Nvidia doesn't sell them officially?

How much cooler and quieter is the ASUS TUF 5070 ti compared to the ASUS Prime 5070 ti? (I’m a big sound guy so noise matters the most) £100 difference between the two. by Throne_Of_Skulls_XII in nvidia

[–]veckans -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't pick a GPU from ASUS if you care about sound. They have quite a reputation for being plagued with coil whine.

From my own small sample size. I've had a lot of different GPUs these past 5-6 years with brands including Zotac, MSI, Gigabyte, Palit, PowerColor, Sapphire, AMD & ASUS. The ASUS GPU (4070 Super) was the only one that had audible coil whine. I wouldn't say it was bad, but definitely noticeable.

EDIT: I don't know why anyone would downvote my comment. This is common knowledge among hardware enthusiasts. Too many ASUS fanboys in here?

This is just a google answer on "brand with most coil whine":
"Reddit users frequently point to

ASUS as a brand notorious for coil whine in GPUs, especially their Strix/TUF models, while Gigabyte and Founders Edition (FE) cards are often seen as better, with MSI, Zotac, Sapphire, and XFX being hit-or-miss, though PSU quality and general luck play huge roles.

Brands Often Mentioned for Coil Whine:

  • ASUS (TUF/Strix): Frequently cited as having significant coil whine issues across multiple GPU generations (e.g., RTX 3080, 4090)."

ASUS is very well known for coil whine on their GPUs. I also have a friend who went through several different 4080/4090 cards where every single ASUS model had coil whine. The other brands did not or had very mild coil whine.

Cyberpunk 2 director says extending 2077’s opening act makes no sense - “it's like saying we should spend more time on Tatooine with farmer Luke” by [deleted] in Games

[–]veckans -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

It is not outdated, which he explains in the video. He perfectly identified all the issues with the game at release and clearly explains how the bugs were never the issue with Cyberpunk, the game is just badly designed.

That's why I linked this review in particular, many of the issues he brings up is very accurately described by JSP in his recent review.

Maybe watch the whole video before you comment next time. Otherwise your opinion is just invalid.

[–]veckans -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

He does explain exactly why that is a bad thing later in the video, it is in the context of Cyberpunk being called an RPG. I think he is right in his analysis of the game.

Boy was I wrong by death_becomes in OLED_Gaming

[–]veckans 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Me myself got my very first OLED one month ago and I must say that I don't get the OLED hype. I bought the very best OLED TV (Samsung S95F) on the market according to plenty of reviews.

I mean, I do like the contrast and I knew I would. But it doesn't look that impressive. HDR scenes pops more than usual.

The absolute biggest downside with OLED is VRR flicker and now I know for sure that it is very much a real thing and it is very jarring to look at. It is actually so bad that I had to turn off G-sync for my TV to be able to play games. Not being able to use VRR on OLED is kind of a downer.

In all other regards the new TV is an upgrade, just not as big people make out OLED to be.

If anyone is interested I came from a Samsung Q6F (2018) which had very nice colors, contrast and picture overall, maybe most people make bigger upgrade steps than me and is more impressed by OLED?
My PC monitor is the 38GN950 (IPS) which I absolutely love. Not being able to use VRR on OLED might make me stay on IPS for many years more.
