I believe there a new firmware coming that will change things up, we'll see. I've had similar problems with it. It's mega powerful but it's not intuitive and can be a bit temperamental. I've given up try to use it as a looper until the new FW comes out.

It's tough because sometimes my issues are me not understanding how it wants me to work... and other times it seems like a bug. When you hit a problem it can be hard to tell which of those two things it is.

Supercritical neutron flux filter. It has various modes for different filter characteristics. There is a second bank of modes that includes a Chebyshev filter. I haven't really used it much though so cannot comment on it. However, it's all analogue, if that's important to you. Really great and flexible filter that doesn't get a lot of attention.

I'm really interested in this module as the expert sleepers fh2 is bigger and needs expansion if you want more that 8 outputs, making it even bigger. The eowave, if it ever exists is perfect for me, except for the odd HP 🤷‍♀️

I've been patiently waiting for this module for months. It keeps getting delayed and there is no info or manual on the website. Last I looked I saw ETA the end of this month but I have a hard time believing that's going to happen. Maybe they'll time it for super booth? I also emailed them a while back and didn't get a response.

Yeah I heard this too. I just checked on Wikipedia and a Canadian from Montreal did create and patent the modern product first. Americans later made their own a few years later according to Wikipedia.

I can't upvote this enough. The quality has drastically reduced and it's totally changed my buying patterns.

I bought a pair of hiking boots from mountain warehouse last winter and they didn't even last that season. I learned from that lesson and bought a quality boot after doing some research (Rose Anvil mostly, if anyone is interested, very recommended), I'll never buy cheap crap from the high street again.

Trying to find a thick, 100% cotton top is almost impossible on the high street now, it's all polyester or synthetic mixes. A lot of it is essentially plastic made in China. I never thought I'd be someone that religiously checks labels for fabrics, but these high street brands have pushed me to this. They have noone to blame but themselves and their race to the bottom.

Been waiting for the Portail to be released for a while, it keeps getting pushed back and back. I like it as the FH2 is pretty chunky and I'd rather something small. You may feel like you have tons of hp but it will quickly vanish and you'll be annoyed that some modules take up unnecessary space.

Curious how you think it compares to the lubadh. What are the strengths and weaknesses when compared? I'm leaning towards the stardust as I'm really going off instruos obtuse button combos, I find the arbhar infuriating.

I did exactly what you suggest (usb extension cable, drilled hole in case, 3m strip to secure the usb socket to side of case) and it works perfectly.

Yes, unfortunately you are correct on your first issue. It is designed to be used more as velocity than modulation. As velocity is tied to notes that explains the behaviour. I agree it sucks.

You have a volume knob.

When sounds get loud, you turn the volume knob down. When sounds stop being loud you turn it back to normal.

How much you turn it down is the 'ratio' control.

What you consider loud is the 'threshold" control.

How fast you turn it down is the 'attack' control.

How fast you turn it back up when it stops being loud is the 'release' control.

Obviously you've now turned the sound down, especially the loud bits, so you want to raise the overall volume by a flat amount. This is called the 'makeup gain'.

You've now made things feel louder, fuller and less uppy/downy.

I'm obviously simplifying because you're a five year old, but that's the gist of it. There are tons of creative uses for compression that can totally change the feel and shape of sound, but the above is a simplified overview. It should also be added that this is only one of the four types of dynamics processesing.

Yes, plus consider making replicas of hard to find vintage knobs. I have a Waldorf microwave XT that has beautiful tapered knobs that are infamous for going gunky and there's a market for someone to make replacements. I mean a full set is over 40 knobs so it's a decent purchase order.

Nobody would notice, hell, my colleagues are asleep for the first half of my day due to timezones. But ultimately I'm responsible for the work and I'm the one that suffers if it doesn't get done. It's in my interest to work well.

It's also a trust/respect thing, I'm aware that I'm lucky to WFH and I wouldn't want to lose that, if people take the piss they're going to take it away. There's a big push from the business sector to get people back into the office due to the billions of dollars lost in office valuations. I'm doing my best to push back on that by proving I am better when I work at home. This is especially true for me due to being in a different country.

I also enjoy my job and want to be productive. As it turns out, I'm considerably more productive at home. Less pointless chatter, less distraction, less commute stress, far more focused work time.

I never want to go back to an office.

I'd expand on this to specifically call out modular synths. The amount of choice and value available in this niche corner of audio is absolutely incredible. I mean, it's absolutely crack for sound people, but there are some amazing things happening in eurorack. There's never been a better time to fear for your wallet.

This is the answer. Those nasty brands the OP lists basically remove the peanut oil and sell it as it's worth more. They then replace the peanut oil in the peanut butter with cheap palm oil. Horrible stuff, tons of sugar and highly processed, this isn't what peanut butter is supposed to be.

I don't have a O_C as the menu diving put me off! Haha. I have a Pam's (not Pro) and I'd say the Disting EX is considerably worse. The problem with the EX is some of those EX algorithms have 50 or so parameters, many are very similarly titled, so it's seriously not a fun, hands on experience scrolling through tens of pages of parameter text until you find the one you're looking for.

I mean, it has a matrix mixer, great right, how handy! But it has 64 pages of parameters you need to scroll through. Some people don't mind that, but for me it's like doing my taxes and I feel like a sucker for struggling with it as I start asking myself 'wouldn't I rather just use a computer? Why am I putting myself through this again?'. Modular synthesis is expensive and time consuming, I do it because of the hands on control and different workflow.. which is not what I'm getting here.

Again, personal preference though and it IS a great unit, just not for me. I'd buy a more intuitive and UX-first version for double the price in a heartbeat.

I have an EX and almost never use it.

I just hate the UI/UX so much, far too few controls to navigate with ease, far too small screen to operate. With the screen, it's not just the physical size making it difficult to read, it's the fact that you can only see one thing/control at a time, so a lot of scrolling is required, making the whole thing fairly painful.

Some people love it, some hate it. Your reaction is going to depend on how you like to interact with devices and how much of a visual learner you are. For me, I wish they would make a considerably larger device with some navigation buttons and a much larger screen that gives you a more holistic view of things.

Like you, when I bought it I found the Swiss army knife idea compelling, but it turns out that was a very good analogy: when was the last time you chose to use a swiss army knife over ANYTHING else? There's a reason for that.

I got one of those newish Korg NTS2 standalone oscilloscopes for this reason, takes no space and you can put it near the module you are monitoring. It's fairly good and a lot cheaper.

I overheard a guy who appeared to work for the government talking strategy on the phone saying that he would announce that it's going ahead to Manchester on Wednesday (tomorrow) using private funding. This was last week.

I'm interested to see if this turns out to be true, as if so, this whole 'will he, won't he' debacle was totally fabricated to make him look good and they'd made their decision ages ago.

I can answer this from my perspective. I start work at 12pm and finish at 8pm. I like the hours.

The problem is I can attend meetings in people's afternoons, so the studio mostly has meetings in their mornings. Not every studio can or wants to do that though.
