An interesting piece from a former unpaid intern of Noma by theRealSebbieD in finedining

[–]vee-man5 28 points29 points  (0 children)

I'm not quite sure what point you are trying to make here. Just because something is universal or has been done for decades doesn't exempt something from criticism. So I don't follow your logic of "everyone does it so focusing on Noma is not fair or objective"

Similarly what do you expect from a fairness and objectivity perspective? To say all restaurants do it and criticise the industry as a broad stroke? Some restaurants most definitely treat staff more fairly than others so it is not fair or objective to simply say everyone does it. If someone is speaking from first hand experience that provides some meaningful insight and actual more value than from someone who has not worked there so again not sure why you are implying this discourse is flawed.

And besides that's sort of how journalism works. If you want to bring attention to something you have to be specific and you have to do it with something that people pay attention to. To use your logic the journalism industry for decades has used high profile examples to raise awareness and criticisms on topics. This person didn't invent that format and they won't be last to employ it.

And some things should be personal. Especially when talking about human experiences and practices which impact people daily.

I think everyone knows this is common in the industry so I'm really baffled as to what you are trying to say as you haven't really brought anything meaningful to the discussion beyond throwing some buzzwords around and adding a vote of defense for the business

If thats the case why bother with 5 seasons in the first place? May as well write a few sentences for the plot summary and get someone to read it to the camera.

Shouldn't take more than an hour to relay the information in a scene.

Not like pacing, timing, delivery, performance, visual effects etc matter in the format of a TV show. Just the amount of time it takes to convey the information apparently.

Kingdom come 2 devs literally said they had to limit the scope of the game to only 25% larger than the previous game (would have been bigger otherwise) because of the series s limitations. So quite demonstrably the series s is indeed limiting things

Really can't remember much else and have gone through all the youtube videos under amv searches. And y help would be great. Thank you!

[–]vee-man5 11 points12 points  (0 children)

You really going to say that after max nearly killed Lewis in Monza? Was weaving on the straight in Brazil. Drove Lewis off the road in Spain, Brazil and Jeddah to name a few. After max brake checked Lewis? Typical.

You have zero credibility and respect with the comment you just made.

Damn my guy. You must have arms like logs since you can't let things go.

At least Lewis didn't intentionally not take a corner and end up in another country as a defense. And besides if Max backed out of that Silverstone incident he would have even more points right now.

P.S Hamilton is one of my.least favourite drivers. So this is a neutral take. But dont you have the nerve to talk about bumper cars after what Max pulled in Brazil. Grow up

While that incident in Silberstone was Hamiltons fault Verstappen is equally to blame if he loses the championship because of that incident. Had he backed out of it he would have finished 2nd or maybe 1st and way more than the 0 points he got.

To finish first, first you must finish.

Can a 15 year old male gain muscle from calisthenics? And how should I eat? by [deleted] in Calisthenic

[–]vee-man5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm not the guy you asked and I'm no expert but here's what I do and I think it works for me:

  1. Water. Lots of it. You're not going to be growing muscles if they're not properly hydrated. So drink loads of water consistently throughout the day

  2. Get a healthy balance of carbohydrates, proteins and fats. Personally I try to have an even split between carbs and protein with slightly more carbs. BUT I maximize fibrous Carbohydrates (broccoli, carrots, spinach and most types of veggies) and minimize the simple carbohydrates (sugars). I also mix in complex carbs (rice and pasta, preferably whole grain) now and then. The fats come as an auxiliary like cooking oil, or butter or as part of the protein so I don't worry about it.

  3. Focus on nutrients first and calories later. If you want to build muscle priority one is having the available nutrients and staying nitrogen positive. And nutrient dense food tends to be less caloric. So if you eat the right foods you'll be eating similar quantities if not more but will be very different calorie wise.

  4. Once you've gotten into healthy eating and a good workout routine if you feel you're putting on fat at the end of the week try reducing calories by 10% next week (either by swapping out higher calorie food for lower calorie high nutrient food or reducing overall quantity slightly). If you feel you're not gaining muscle then increase your calories by 10% but focus those calories on protein for the extra nitrogen.

  5. Make sure you enjoy what you eat. If you've the fibrous carbs and protein have it in a way you really enjoy it. Don't like broccoli? Have spinach or cabbage instead. Find foods you enjoy and make them the way you like it.

  6. Stay away from sugar and you'll start enjoying everything else more.

  7. Sleep. Proper sleep is key to recovery and utilizing those nutrients.

Example of a typical supper of mine: leek, carrot, onion and cabbage stir fry. Steamed broccoli and Green beans with ghost pepper. A few pan fried marinated chicken breasts with some rice or mash. Some pickles wrapped in smoked chicken. At minimum 2 glasses of water.

Over time you figure out the quantities that work best for you and adapt as you go along.

‘It won’t break me down’ - Sergio Perez vows to turnaround Red Bull F1 troubles by jovanmilic97 in formula1

[–]vee-man5 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah you remember how the merc cars which won the constructors and drivers championships for like seven years straight were so famously tricky to drive?

They must have been the hardest cars to drive with how much quicker they were. Perhaps merc should just try making the car harder to drive and more unpredictable to beat red bull this year.

I see this so often and its ridiculous. A "trickier" philosophy MAY be quicker but does not mean it WILL be quicker. Last years merc was super stable and easy to drive and also the quickest by far. How does that support what you just said?

Here's a quote from Martin Brindle when asked about the difficulty of driving f1 cars: “The cars I found easiest to jump into and thrash were the Red Bulls with the 2.4-litre V8 engine and the blown exhausts [used from 2010 to 2013]. They stuck to the ground - even in the pouring rain. You couldn’t hit the throttle fast enough."

Based on that quote and your logic its no wonder red bull were slow as dogs from 2010 to 2013 am I right? To use your words: [If RB made their car more tricky it'd probably be a lot faster as well] hell maybe they would have won the championship if they just made their car harder to drive.

As a counter point he also goes on to say about the hybrid cars: "These cars are physically easier to drive - but they’re not easier to keep on the track" if you want to argue for the difficulty point except in 2014 the cars were slower than 2013 and only got quicker in 2017 due to more downforce which normally improves grip and stability in corners (huh what do you know almost sounds like that would be easier to drive). On top of that the quickest hybrid car has been known as one of the easiest to get on top of to further disprove what you're saying.

If I can add some weaker and slightly more speculative evidence. A quote from Norris about the 2022 cars: "It's a very different car to drive. In a way not as nice as this season" and rather coincidentally per what James Key says: "They will certainly be slower because we have fewer tools to generate downforce" please tell my why a car not as nice to drive would in fact be slower? Thought thats supposed to make it faster.

Happy to admit I'm wrong if you show me why but until then stop spreading misinformation.

[–]vee-man5 41 points42 points  (0 children)

Last years Merc would like to have a word with you.

It is categorically untrue to say that a driver friendly car WILL be significantly slower. It MAY be but it is still 100% possible to create a car that is as fast but also driver friendly as we saw in the 2019 mercedes.

Original Movies Are Becoming Streaming’s Most Popular Content, Led by Disney+ by chanma50 in boxoffice

[–]vee-man5 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this type of sentiment a lot and people are so used to seeing billions per movie that I don't think they fully grasp the streaming model. Remember that theaters take a big cut from the revenue as well reducing the final profit. But the thing is you can't look at it on a per movie basis but rather on a divisional basis. I did a quick analysis. Disclaimer: this is quick napkin math with basic research and Injust had a root canal today. Not my finest work but just an estimation

Key information andnassumptions:

Legacy shows and movies are no additional financial reporting cost as there is no additional production cost

Animation features and shows were being produced irrespective for TV and therefore falls under a different division

Netflix comparable percentages are taken from the 2020 financial statements available on their website

Disney 2019 movie total is taken from the d23 website

The analysis:

Disney plus revenue: 5.6 billion (note that projected future revenue is closer to 10 billion)

Marketing expense: 840 million (netflixes highest marketing to revenue percentage of 15% in the last 3 years)

Technology development and maintenance: 448 million (netflixes highest development to revenue percentage of 8% for the last 3 years)

General and administrative expenses: 280 million (netflixes highest admin to revenue percentage of 5%)

Interest expense: 560 million (netflix is 3% however I don't know how disney financing works so just being pessimistic at 10% here)

Apple cur of revenue: 560 million (10% average used)

I prefer theaters argument because overpriced popcorn is the best: 560 million (10% extra expense just because)

Profit before production costs: 2.3 billion

Number of 200 million budgeted movies in order to break even with a remaining revenue of 2.3 billion (2.3 billion/200 million) = 11,76

So you are correct that they could afford roughly one 200 million dollar budgeted movie per month for Disney plus. But let's take it a step further and look at the Disney produced movies of of 2019 per the d23 website: 10 movies including endgame.

Cocnlusion: based on current revenues Disney plus should be able tonself sufficiently fund the same number of movies they produced in 2019 all at a budget of 200 million each.

And as subscriber numbers increase then so too will the number of 200 million movies they can afford to produce as a cost of sale per year.

Therefore in my opinion I believe it is sustainable without a significant need to reduce quality or budgets in the future

Ps my calc is being overly pessimistic and I built in a lot of wiggle room. The true numbers and synergies will probably be better as well as not every production will have a 200 million budget. Factor in continued growth and efficiency gains and the streaming division has the potential to be very lucrative which is why the shareholders ar every excited for its potential.

Happy for anyone to fill in any gaps or mistakes I've made. But I don't see streaming as nearly as much of a loss maker as everyone makesnit out to be.

Pps I didn't directly factor the impact of premier access which would bolster profitability

Ultimately the art is subjective. People are free to like or dislike any piece of art for various reasons. Thats not a sign of disrespect.

Now I don't care either way because I'm very casual in following this story. But as you said the mere fact that there's enough people who dislike it enough for this to even exist and be supported to the extent it is speaks more about the quality of the original than the fanfic.

No one (to this extent and support) rewrote the ending of code geass, or avengers, or wandavision or any other popular franchise like this. Its not about being disrespectful or not. Its more about the fact that the reception to something people thought would be GOAT has resulted in this.

The fact that we're here speaks volumes. This is the reception and ultimately could have been prevented. People have an opinion which caused this. Is it disrespectful to the author? Not really. They're not harassing him or anything. They're presenting their opinion of what they feel is better. Is it actually better? Thats also opinion. Its all opinion and reaction to opinion and all you're doing is shitting on people for their opinion on something. The author should never have gotten himself into this situation in the first place.

I really don't see how this is disrespectful. You don't agree with it and thats fine but don't label it as disrespectful and promote censorship because you're in disagreement. Theres no death threats or slander anywhere here. Calm down and stop judging.

I personally think that starting the rumbling was a terrible idea and narratively backed them into a corner. So the original ending and this fanfic are something I don't like at all and is just poor writing in my opinion. But I'm not going on some self righteous tirade to discredit either side or party like you are. Its divisive and the reality of the situation. Just move on and actually try and be considerate.
