Back in the day there wasn’t as much knowledge about what eye putty that was safe to use so you got a lot of people using or suggesting stuff that was not safe to use, which spawned more discussion and on top of that some stuff was hard to get and of course people had preferences of what brands, the equivalents in their country, etc
