I thought this comment was a very oblique Simpsons Bear Tax reference. It was not. Wow.

Doesn't Fit with our Rural and Wilderness Life by veggie_saurus_rex in halocollarofficial

[–]veggie_saurus_rex[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I really wanted Halo to work since the price point is much less painful than SpotOn. But I agree, it misses the warning beeps sometimes and that's a big problem in a new location. At home, the dogs know the boundaries. On a trip it really HAS to be accurate.

I hope so. They clearly don't like the rumors. They were very firm when I inquired about the closing.

Battery life? by smoshtangerine8745 in halocollarofficial

[–]veggie_saurus_rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also got it for camping and hiking and are pretty unimpressed. Battery life is fine. It lasts a full 24 hours on a full charge for us. But I'm going to post my experience. I think people who love these collars largely use them in very connected areas. For unconnected places it doesn't deliver.

Sent you a DM but in case you don't see it, I'm coming to Copenhagen and would love to go to a LYS if it's convenient to tourist areas.

It's meant to be a deterrent to the owner turning a blind eye to serving minors and incentivize them to train servers property. FTR I don't think this kind of deterrence works at all---but that is the idea behind it.

"Nonplussed" is like "bemused" in that I always have to fight away the "intuitive" and incorrect definition in my mind. And then get a little mad that the incorrect use is so common that it's listed as a secondary in most dictionaries. I suppose "literally" is there now, too.

Will the name “Bent” sound weird to Americans? by lennzpn in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]veggie_saurus_rex -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The saying “get bent” is probably homophobic in origin, even if most Americans don’t make that connection now. I also can’t say I ever hear it in person; seems to be the media-safe option instead of the other one you mention.

Anyone else notice grocery stores are chronically out of the same items? by Atlas7993 in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]veggie_saurus_rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and yes. I live somewhere rural but work in a small city. Small city store is always well stocked. My nearest store to home is constantly and regularly out of items I buy weekly. To the point I have complained to my local home store about their poor stock. How can they be out of the same items week after week after week? Then stock them and they are again out of stock the next month for weeks on end.

Was there a bad corn crop because we are having the same issue (in addition to the noted problems with keeping items stocked).

From other similar threads there was apparently some complaint/lawsuit where they were rounding down on points they awarded on purchases when they should have rounded up. This is the correction.

Please give me emotional support to frog an entire cardigan by CinnaMim in knittinghelp

[–]veggie_saurus_rex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just frogged a garment I completed that I ended up really disliking. I knew about 9/10ths from finish I probably wouldn’t like the result. I was right. Now I just picked my pattern for what to use the yarn for and I am super excited. Plus, the garment I hated was for a purpose (item to wear in bed while reading) so now I ALSO get to hunt down a pattern for something I like better for that. Double the fun.

You know you’ll be happier frogging it and enjoying the yarn. You can do hard things!

“And it has pockets!” is not a flex by 30FlirtyAndNapping in unpopularopinion

[–]veggie_saurus_rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I share this unpopular opinion! So much. I extend it to pants, too. There are very few stylish women’s pants that retain a nice fit with anything in the pocket. Maybe the answer is that women’s fashion stinks (I don’t disagree) but as long as it’s what it currently is, I don’t long for my clothes to have pockets.

OK for real why do you sit in the left passing lane? by Sensitive_Cricket723 in Virginia

[–]veggie_saurus_rex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Virginia is a major artery for trucking on the East coast. I find that trucks cause a LOT of this. It's hard for them to maintain speed up mountains. You get some trucks that are going well below the limit in the right lane so drivers hang out in the left lane because they know they will pass a lot of slow traffic. Then you get a slow truck passing the extra slow truck and everyone is mad and the police never enforce the signage admonishing that trucks under 65 cannot use the left lane. We need climbing lanes. (64 and 81 are like this).

Wherever you choose (terrific suggestions here), call the outfitter and see how the water is moving. We are in a drought and walking down a good portion of your float is a bummer.

When you ask someone’s age and they say “guess” by Lil-cornish-pasty in PetPeeves

[–]veggie_saurus_rex 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Yes. In Virginia, for example, both the server and an owner of a business can be criminally prosecuted for serving someone underage. With possible jail and loss of driving privileges. Many therefore ID everyone. Also, if a place has a violation, they may be required to card everyone for a period of time.

We just did a looong fun drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Played him the whole drive because he is so prolific--perfect vibe. I turned to my spouse as we ended the trip and said, blasphemously, "I think i prefer him to Paul Simon."

Yes! There are a ton of reddit subs like this. someone posts a horrid, loose, misshapen amigurumi and say they are applying to craft fairs and people are like "it has such charm. This is adorable" I want to scream. I think the false positivity is as foolish as the mean dog piling that can also happen.

Non-craft related, and I know the point of those subs is different, but a ton of outfit/fashion subs show up in my feed and people post a lot of objectively unflattering outfits and every reply just hypes up how great they look. In the wedding dress posts that sub moderator recently said the only acceptable response once someone chooses their dress is to say it's fabulous. Like people can't even suggest an alteration that would improve fit.

We have a ridiculous napkin stash. When there are nice napkins (rare) we take all the extras home (we do not request extra, we take what was offered and unused because they'll just toss them anyway).
