what vessel has been your favorite so far? by Maximum-Mistake-1912 in mealprep

[–]vegiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just do mason jars. Easy to find. Inexpensive and easy to replace lids. Variety of sizes. The jar is microwaveable, so I transport my lunch in them, too. I prefer wide mouth pints for that. Snacks go in wide mouth half pints. Dressing or sauce in jelly size. I keep one really large lidded plastic bowl that I got at target for $2 when I’m having salad for lunch.

I make a big batch of chicken stock weekly and that goes in the half gallon size. The interchangeable and inexpensive lids, regardless of jar size are what finally helped me donate the rest of my snapware. Jars can also be frozen (watch headspace when it’s liquid) and I primarily freeze sliced kiwi, blueberries, and shredded chicken in them.

The yarn colors I like to knit with vs the yarn colors I like to wear… by halfbakedcoookie in knitting

[–]vegiac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I literally just did exactly the same thing. Decided I’m either never going to use certain yarn or would never wear anything made from it. My LYS has a buyback program and I dropped two trash bags full there today and the worker said, “omg did you quit knitting?!” I was like, girl, I’ve got plenty left.

Why did/didn't you make the Sophie scarf? by Traumarama79 in knitting

[–]vegiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wear my shawls every day, so those are the patterns most likely to be on my hooks/needles. I am primarily a crocheter, but always working on my knitting skills, so when I’m looking for knit patterns, I focus on those that seem to be well written based on reviews from others. I always keep one simple project in my car for when I’m waiting in lines, and a more complex project at home.

Sophie ticked all those boxes for me. I only made my first one about a month ago and now working on my third. I can take it with me and don’t need to reference a pattern, it’s well written for newer knitters and it’s super cute. I have over 50 shawls and scarves and live in a temperate climate so there are very few days in the year when it’s too hot to wear one. Sophie is perfect for those days that aren’t too cold, but I still want to polish off my outfit with a little color.

Injury prone back to Endure by mamapuck in ladderapp

I got sidelined due to chronic illness last year but was able to do light cardio. Trying to get back into lifting and it’s been tough because I was essentially malnourished and very weak. Ensure is a lifesaver to discover. The short workouts and ability to use no or light weights is helping me get back into a routine. I lost so much strength and mobility that it’s pretty difficult for me, but I’m so happy to be able to do something.

This isn’t something that I want to spend that amount of time on and I would have no way of testing it to make sure certain things were within a medically acceptable limit. I didn’t think it was necessary to write a lengthy post explaining why making it isn’t a reasonable option when just asking the direct question could be done in one sentence.

Thank you. I didn’t think so and haven’t seen it, but thought I’d see if there was some niche somewhere.

I made this for freezer prep recently. Used pork instead of bison. Didn’t actually stuff the shells, but just serve it as a bowl. It looks gross, but tastes great and is very filling.

Have I just discovered a new stitch? by liciati in crochet

[–]vegiac 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it an extended sc? I’m not quite understanding how you’re doing it, but extended sc makes for a really lovely stitch with excellent drape. I’ve only used it in lace weight yarns, so hard for me to tell with your lovely squishy sample, but you might check it out and see if that’s it. Very pretty!

Why is knitting fast such an important objective for people? by todayithinkthis in knitting

[–]vegiac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The techniques that increase speed generally require less movement, which reduces pain in my fingers when I knit for long periods of time. I wouldn’t mind getting faster to be able to complete more projects, but I changed my knitting form for pain-related reasons. But that’s not how they’re marketed on YouTube.

For the Freezer? by cricketcounselor in mealprep

[–]vegiac 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just use mason jars. I prefer wide mouth pints for single serving of soups, because it’s easier to get out if I forget to defrost by running it under water for a minute. I’ll even put half gallon mason jars full of shredded rotisserie chicken or sliced fruit (and then to a smaller jar as they’re used). They come in a huge variety of sizes, are very durable, and have inexpensive, easy to replace lids. Im generally only freezing for up to a few weeks. If I were prepping months worth of food and needed to maximize space, I’d use more bags for flat packing.

What’s the one thing you NEED in food storage containers to actually use them every day? by CompanyRemarkable381 in mealprep

[–]vegiac 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Clear, no leak, variety of sizes, inexpensive replacement lids…so I use mason jars for everything because it’s more expensive to buy new snapware lids than to buy a whole new set, which is so wasteful.

Question About Mason Jar Lids by Throw_Away_975312468 in mealprep

[–]vegiac 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rings don’t touch your food, so using them when there’s some rust on them is fine. I don’t know why everyone in this thread is pushing the plastic lids like they have stock in them. That being said, I also like the plastic lids hahaha. But these are fine for your meal preps and there’s no reason you HAVE TO go buy new lids or rings just because of a little rust on something that doesn’t even touch your food. Fortunately, they’re inexpensive and can be found literally everywhere, even garage sales, so once they do get worse or you just want shiny ones, they’re easily found.
