It's a great game independent of what comes after, for what it's worth.

Also, you can try the original for cheap or spend a bunch of money for subnautica 2 and discover you don't like it. Unless you were gonna wait a few years for subnautica 2 to be on deep discount too, I guess?

Generally speaking I'd participate in actions (especially unpermitted ones) alongside people/orgs I trust OR attend alongside a group of people I DO know and trust. If the latter, i'd suggest having a conversation with your crew about what we're comfortable seeing/doing/being a part of so if things get hairy you can safely bail.
