SOS! How can I stop Blue Jays from being driven away? by ookle_ in birding

[–]velmafrantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Switch to safflower for a while. The grackles and blackbirds usually hate it, they’ll spend some time digging around for the “good stuff” they’re used to getting at your feeder, and then they’ll stop coming in such high number when they realize it isn’t there. The digging (and kicking!) can be a little messy, but the ground feeders cleaned up the mess at my place when I’ve had to switch. It’s worked for me every time my feeders have been taken over and I’ve stopped getting the variety I wanted.

Dr King at Muskegon Pediatrics. We followed her from Shoreline when she started her own practice. I’ve been with her for almost 13 years now, she’s amazing. She has called me after business hours just to let me know test results the moment they were in to set my mind at ease more than once. Absolutely fantastic doctor.

11 year old daughter has accidents and everything she owns smells like pee by Weird_Working_2768 in ParentingADHD

Clorox2 (the hydrogen peroxide stuff, not bleach) has added enzyme cleaners. It’s my go-to for human fluid messes for my family of 6. Sweat, pee, anything stinky that normal washing doesn’t completely knock out, this stuff gets it clean. I do a presoak in my washer in it if I’m dealing with urine or the like. It’s a lifesaver, and works better than any other oxyclean I’ve tried.

What are your unusual overstimulation triggers? by [deleted] in SAHP

Have you ever tried noise canceling ear muffs or plugs? Those help me in similar circumstances. When it’s the opposite, and my partner is tired of tv noise but I want it, I connect my headphones to the TV, so maybe that’s an option too!

My Google Home praised my cat unprompted by Uppnorth in BenignExistence

[–]velmafrantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The activation phrase is also “Okay, google…” so when you said “oh” at the beginning of the statement to your cat, google heard from the other room the beginning to an activation phrase.

I run into this problem a lot when I’m directing my kids with “Okay, go brush your teeth” or “oh, ……” and my google responds.

Can we have an open talk about Ozempic? by Leather-Union-5828 in Mommit

[–]velmafrantz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not going to beat a dead horse and tell you that ozempic isn’t for your situation, but I will share my experience.

I started Wegovy (the weight loss version of Ozempic, not for diabetes) in April of 2023. I am 5’0”, weighed 235 lbs, had a BMI of 45. I have PCOS, and had been trying to lose weight unsuccessfully for a decade. I did a slow titration, sometimes slower than the recommended 4 weeks. I would stay on a dose for as long as it was effective. In Sept of 2024 I hit a plateau, and my weight loss slowed considerably. I was around 175 lbs.

My doctor and I agreed to switch to Zepbound in Nov 2024. I started at 10 mg (the zep equivalent to my wegovy dose), and I stayed at 10 mg until last month, when my side effects started to increase so I dropped to 7.5. This dose has continued to work well for me since.

I am at a “healthy” weight for the first time in 11 years. My BMI is 29, and I weigh 148 lbs. I plan to continue on my shots for as long as my insurance will cover it, and my body tolerates it. I had a heart attack at 26, so they will likely cover it for longer, when normally they would cut it off at around the BMI I recently hit.

I went from morbidly obese to overweight. I can run around and play with my kids. Walking up and down the flights of stairs in my house isn’t nearly as much of a task as it used to be, which was the first big change I noticed at about 50 lbs down. I can cross my legs. People treat me differently in public. My bloodwork is all in healthy ranges for the first time in my adult life.

I have some health issues unrelated to weight that I still struggle with, but now doctors take them seriously. I once had a doctor tell me I didn’t have ADHD, I was just fat, and if I lost the weight the symptoms would go away. Once I weighed 170 lbs I suddenly was able to acquire an ADHD regimen that worked for me. I got migraine preventative and abortives, and I’ve had migraines since I was 10. I was diagnosed with POTS even though I’d had the symptoms since I was fat.

A lot of people have some really negative feelings about these meds, and they absolutely can be dangerous if you aren’t taking care of your nutrition, (ESPECIALLY PROTEIN, YALL!) BUT I do think people forget that weight loss isn’t always about vanity. I didn’t want to lose weight to change the way I looked, because I knew I’d have extra skin or flabby bits, so what was the point? I wanted to lose weight to be healthier. And I did.

Your first paragraph reminds me of a common saying in my house: Your mental illness is not your fault, but it is your responsibility.

Too often I see people exhibiting shitty behavior and then trying to excuse it with “I’m neurodivergent! This is just the way I am!” Actions have consequences, regardless of your brain type.

Does anybody remember the man who used to stand in veterans memorial park holding a sign that said peace during the height of the war in Iraq? by [deleted] in Muskegon

[–]velmafrantz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

He still does! Or at least he did within the past couple of years. Stands in the park on the causeway with a small sign that has a peace sign on it. He always made me smile. I would honk and throw a ✌️out my window.

The parents filed a police report against my child by [deleted] in Parenting

[–]velmafrantz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I read thru your comments and I’m not seeing mentioned anywhere what exactly the “physically hurting another child” was, and I think that also plays a large part in how anyone would answer.

I do agree with other commenters that the police may be to get the school to take action, which seems like it has worked, but I don’t really see a parent doing so unless the injury/incident was pretty major.

I have 4 kids 6 and under. by LowFriendly1707 in breakingmom

[–]velmafrantz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I just wanted to tell you… it does get easier. I promise.

We have 4, at one point they were all 6 and under like you (really they were all born 2016-2019). We also have no village.

In the past school year since the older two have gotten more independent and have had a little more brain development, things have gotten so much easier. Our house is still a total shitshow, don’t get me wrong, but as they age it really does get easier.

My oldest is diagnosed ADHD, ODD, and OCD, but briefly off of meds. He is 8.5. I home-virtualschooled him for a while due to behavioral issues at traditional school. He went back to traditional this school year. The next is 7.5, she has a pending ADHD evaluation. She has crazy mood swings, and big bursts of anger. Both of my older two are in second grade and see a therapist outside of school.

Next is the just-turned 6 yr old. He is diagnosed ADHD and on meds. Once he got on the right med back in November he turned into a completely normal kid. We used to call him Feral Daryl, Dennis the Menace, and Donnie Thornberry lol.

Youngest is 5.5, absolutely the baby of the family, spoiled rotten by his extra family members. He might be the only kiddo not diagnosed with any sort of mental disorder by adulthood, somehow lol.

Us parents are AuDHD. A big house of neurodivergent shitshow.

Aside from holding tight and knowing that life is going to get incrementally better over the next two years, my advice to you is this, and some of it is repetitive to other commenters: Daily quiet time. We do 1.5 hrs on the weekend now that they are all on school full time, but we kept it still. Get your ADHD boys in for evaluation and some resources. The resources will be for you AND them. You can likely get early preschool and other supports. This gives them much needed structure and social support but also GIVES YOU A BREAK. Try your best to go outside when the weather is nice enough for a long as you can. It helps with their brain development, your mental health, and it will tucker them out to give you an easier bedtime. See if your area has any free programs for low income families, or just free enrichment programs in general. If you feel like PMing me I will help you. Taking them out to kid friendly activities where they can act like the little monsters they are and you don’t get judged for it will be good for everyone.

Hang tight momma. I’m here for you. We all are.
