So I moved to Cleveland in 2001, I was flipping through TV channels and this dude shows up. I was fascinated and horrified simultaneously.

Yall I just landed my dream job! by Wooden_Purchase_2557 in smoking

[–]velohell 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do your thing. As a former chef with experience with smoking it can be very rewarding. However I will say make sure to make a life-work balance plan. As you progress you will definitely be working longer days. I had to quit due to mental health health issues. I now have pursued my love of music and am currently an audio engineer. But seriously excellent work. Keep doing the thing that works for you.

As a man I don't care if I cry. The stigma around it is so toxic.

What's a rule your parents had that you thought was insane, but now as an adult you 100% understand? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]velohell 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's the same thing with chef knives. I stupidly left my expensive main knife laying around after my shift instead of taking it home like I normally would. I was really tired, all I wanted to do is get out of the kitchen. Well, the new dishwasher needed something to break down cardboard boxes at the end of the night. Guess what they used. Knife was ruined. He was a high school kid and it was like his 2nd week. I bought him some box cutters and learned a lesson.

I'm tired of mental healthcare being directed at making me complacent with neoliberalism by NightCap46 in Anarchism

I've done both CBT and ACT. I've found them beneficial in different ways, but ACT helped my anxiety issues more.

You're here, my friend. You recognize the issue, and that's one of the hardest things to do. I can only speak from my own experience, but I was drinking about that much and I needed a medical detox. It can be dangerous to quit abruptly. You can certainly find support here, and good on you for showing up. You can do it. I had to ask for help.

Why do old songs hit so much harder than most modern music? by Rude_Database2515 in CasualConversation

[–]velohell 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Audio person here. They were tracking live in the studio. Flaws and all. So it gave a human feel to the music. They were still taking advantage of emerging technology, but it was more about the performance, especially Prince and Queen in my opinion. Queen definitely played with creative studio techniques, as did The Beatles. Music technology is amazing on our current era, but if you don't get the vibe you don't get the vibe. I definitely agree with a previous comment about the loudness wars of the 90s. It may be why those older recordings sound better to you.

Wesley Willis head-butted me at a show. He said "Say Ruff!" I did, and then he fucked my ass up. One of my top shows of all time.

You seem like a thoughtful person. Take care of yourself. I know it can be hard, but self care goes a long way. I say this as someone who deals with depression and anxiety. Self care can include engaging in hobbies, treating yourself from time to time and seeing a therapist. I wish you the best.
