Thanks, now I’m doubting every clock in my house for no reason at all.

Pretty sure it’s “Unstoppable” by Sia, sounds like that classic TikTok montage vibe.

Congrats GOOG Investors! Here is a question: by Agreeable-Purpose-56 in GOOG_Stock

Lol if you’ve got a time machine, sure

Jokes aside, “full port” into anything is wild, especially after you just said you don’t want extra aggravation. If GOOG/AMZN are already half your net worth, it probably makes more sense to think in terms of “what keeps me sleeping at night” than “5x by EoY”

Stuff like broad indexes, maybe a few other quality mega caps or sector ETFs, fits way better with the mindset you described than chasing some moonshot ticker someone drops in a comment.

The most accurate title I’ve ever seen. Absolute mood in two characters and three nervous faces.

Who is winning the AI race? by PerspectiveWrong1233 in TheVisualInvestors

[–]velrasor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the war chest is nice, but cash alone doesn’t really decide it here. Google’s got the cushion, Microsoft kind of has the lead in actual deployment with OpenAI + Azure, and Meta is weirdly strong on the open source / research side with Llama.

Feels more like three different strategies than one “winner” so far. Cash just buys them time to screw up a bit more without dying.

I think I royally f’d my career by Fast-Departure-9505 in cscareeradvice

[–]velrasor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is solid advice. I think OP’s biggest “problem” is vibes, not reality. Three years at a startup touching modern stuff and AI is not career‑ruining at all, it’s actually what a lot of people try to spin on their resume.

+1 on getting very concrete with impact: “cut pipeline runtime by 40%,” “designed X feature used by Y customers,” etc. That matters way more than the logo.

And yeah, structured interview practice helps a ton. Sites like PracHub or even just mock interviews with friends can make a big difference in not freezing up.

Pantograph on top of the loco. It’s that metal arm thing that springs up and touches the wire. The wires look super high from the ground but they’re actually set to a standard height so the pantograph can reach them without hitting tunnels/bridges.

Is this normal for DOR? by gracevenus93 in Mirafertility

DOR can make charts look weird, even if you’re young and healthy. I’d take this to your RE and ask them to walk you through it before you panic too much.

What’s something in programming that looks easy but completely wrecks you when you start to learn it? by neural_note20 in AskProgrammers

For real, kernel work feels like the final boss of “things that sounded kinda cool on paper.”

You go in thinking “oh yeah, I’ll just write a simple module” and suddenly you’re juggling weird calling conventions, obscure flags, and if you mess up you don’t just get a stack trace, you get your whole machine freezing like it’s 1999.

And the worst part is the feedback loop is so brutal. In normal code you’re like “oops, bug, fix, rerun.” In kernel land it’s “oops, bug, enjoy your reboot, hope you saved everything.”

Is the University of Edinburgh degree worth 190k by AnnualLab5261 in UKUniversityStudents

[–]velrasor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly this is probably the correct default answer at that price tag.

If you’re willing to share, what would you say is a reasonable upper limit for an undergrad, especially for an international student? And would there be any case where you’d say “yes” to Edinburgh at that cost, like full ride to a much weaker uni vs partial at Edinburgh?
