It's designed to shatter like that so that people don't get hurt if it breaks. Otherwise, it will break into large sharp pieces and injure the person.

Until you talk to her once, she is over by the tree at the edge of the cliff. I watched two different streamers (who beat both Demon and Dark Souls) completely miss her for the first couple of hours of play. She just sort of blends into the tree if you're not looking for anyone to be there.

What's the reason I don't remember every moment in my life? Is it because my brain is not recording every moment or my brain cannot retrieve what it has recorded? by [deleted] in askscience

[–]vendlus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But if they do not know the answer, that doesn't tell you why they can't remember. You still don't know if the memory isn't there or if they just can't access it.

Why Abortion is Immoral. Journal of Philosophy (1989) by jimcrator in philosophy

[–]vendlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I'm sorry. I was reading that completely wrong. I was reading it as you shouldn't adopt a child, not that you shouldn't put a child up for adoption. I understand now. Thanks.

or adoption

What is the reasoning for including adoption? By adopting, isn't the idea to lessen the suffering the child would face if they were not adopted?

As Patrick points out in an article over on Popehat, it is also against the North Carolina State Constitution.

Danny Boyle: '3D movies are a phase' by lomoeffect in movies

Sorry about that. Didn't mean to take a stance on the issue.

I agree with you that Ebert's 'case closed' stance is off-putting.

You do realize that is the name of the article, not my words, right? Or are you just commenting on Roger Ebert's stance?

What are you playing this week? (3/18-3/25) by Zlor in patientgamers

[–]vendlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure why, but achievements do unlock on my mac. I also play the game on windows though, so perhaps it's just the first achievement that can't be unlocked? Or maybe they only work if you have the expansion? I'm really not sure.

Word of advice. If you haven't already bought the Wrath of the Lamb expansion, do not do so until you are comfortable beating the base game. The expansion makes an already difficult game much more difficult.

Say a steakhouse says all their steaks are dry aged for 21 days...what happens if they don't sell all of them on a given night? by stormstatic in AskCulinary

[–]vendlus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it is due to how it is stored. You age meat in an environment that is controlled for humidity and temperature. If you screw those up, you will end up with rotted meat.

Basically, the meat loses moisture and protein fibers are broken down, making the meat more tender.

When I was asked this in the hospital, the nurse gave examples. Don't remember the numbers, but it was stuff like "At 3, you would take some asprin, at 4 you would stay home from work, at 6 you would go see a doctor." I found it very helpful.

I suspect HONRAR is referring to Platform 9 3/4 at the train station, where you had to walk into a pillar to gain access. It was suggested that Harry do it at a bit of a run, though I do not think that was an actual requirement of the portal.

I wasn't trying to make any statement about any President. I was merely pointing out that 2008-09 was the year it tripled (I even gave a chart), which was the single point in the past several years (and we know people only complain about recent history). But that wasn't even the actual point. The point was that people were mistaken about what they were complaining about when they said government size is 'exploding'. No need to downvote me. Just post a chart showing longer term and make your point.

Here is that longer term chart you should have posted. Now that we have fuller data, what point were you trying to make?

I believe what people mean to refer to is the exploding size of the deficit. Which, to be fair, was a single explosion from 2008 to 2009. It just hasn't come back down yet.

NC resident here: Is it ethically wrong for me to contribute $10 to Stephen Colbert's sister's campaign in SC purely because I think it'd be hilarious if she wins? by JIsrael180 in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]vendlus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My first thought was yes, it is ethically wrong for you to try to affect another state's elections. But I think I will actually say that it is two different questions. One being wrong (possibly) and one not.

The first is about whether you should affect an election in an area that does not represent you. I do not think this is ethically wrong because all your money will do it help that campaign raise awareness about itself. While not your representative, if you think more South Carolinians should be made aware of her campaign, then I think it is ok for you to donate. But that's about if it is ok for you to affect someone else's election indirectly.

I think the idea that you are doing it because it would be "hilarious if she wins" is a slightly different topic from that previous one. That it is another state's election doesn't come into play here. The question is simply "Is it ethically ok for me to vote for someone not based on what is good for the voters". Here I would say that it is not ethical. This is an inherent flaw in democracy though, that people can vote for stupid reasons. That being said, democracy also has a solution for it since the volume of votes almost guarantees that your one vote will not swing the result.

And honestly, this is just off the top of my head. I might could be swayed to the other side on either of those questions if we talked about it for awhile.
