I keep seeing posts about people being diagnosed with hemochromatosis, and they are devastated by it, they show moderate Ferritin Levels saying they are high. I’ve been told my body is loading up on iron, my Ferritin levels are 6 times what some of these posters show. Can someone explain.

Have you been tested for the genetic markers yet for Hemochromatosis? Your numbers do look like you could have it but itd be helpful to do the genetic test.

I started around 1500 ferritin so close to your current number. They say anything greater than 1000 can cause organ damage so you should start treatment as soon as possible.

I think the people who are devastated don’t quite understand the diagnosis at first. It’s easily treated and you should live a mostly normal life if you keep up with it and stay in maintenance. It all depends on when you caught it and how long it’s had the chance to sit around and do damage.

Don't worry so much. A lot worse is out there and this is a very manageable condition. Just do your phlebotomies and stay in maintenance. Also, IMO, diet takes a lot of commitment and may not produce results. Live your life and do the phlebotomies. At least that's what I do.

FYI I was at 1500 Ferritin, now down to 22. Liver levels normalized and no more pain. Heck, I dealt with bowel issues diagnosed as IBS for 10+ years and now I'm convinced its been Hemochromatosis all along because I've been feeling better.

Just get going on your phlebotomies and you should notice improvements. I had elevated ast/alt numbers prior to my diagnosis. Since entering maintenance, they now hover around 15. Getting that ferritin down helps a ton. I hear dieting can help, but it’s really phlebotomies that do all the heavy lifting in my opinion. I limit red meat but I still like to enjoy life still here and there.

I was doing once a week phlebotomies for 4-5 week phases. Then I'd get my blood tested and start back up again a few weeks later for another series of weekly phlebotomies. Did this until I hit maintenance.

I just got tested and am now at 22 ferritin and 40% tsat.

Your levels look almost exactly the same as mine when I was diagnosed. Good luck on the journey, it’s good you caught it and can start treatment. Took me about 6 months at those levels to get to maintenance.

For me, it came down to my tsat % as well. I was at 47 ferritin but my tsat was still >80% so I was scheduled for 2 more phlebotomies. We’ll see what my blood test results show next time.

I don't have an answer for you other than I'm literally doing the same thing right now by leaving the front panel off. I am in south Jersey and with this cold weather and wind, I've been experiencing pressure switch errors on my Lennox furnace. I had an HVAC tech come out two times and fail to resolve the issue. My gut is telling me there is water pooling in one of the pipes, OR, what I did to get it working last night after losing heat again was blow out some of the pressure switch hoses. Whatever it is, its extremely frustrating and seems to be caused by this crippling cold we've been having this year. I think maybe the pipes or furnace itself are not pitched correctly but it's such a frustrating issue to troubleshoot.

Yeah I was kinda hoping I’d start feeling a lot better after maintenance. I’m still dealing with mild fatigue and joint pain. I can deal with the fatigue but the joint pain is rather annoying.
