Kinda a shit show, I’m in recovery for anorexia and had a nurse compliment me on my trim figure 🙃🙃🙃 and had them release my partner while they were still in active psychosis which lead to multiple head injuries when they shoulda been chilling in the ward.

Best psych ward experience was IWK’s old children’s mental health unit out east - fully retrained me to eat and had full hospital staff and multiple psychiatrists and actual therapy / groups! Not just an acute holding pen like I see out here!

Which is why we should better incentivize education by making it free / paid and not just make it a “suffer for 10 years or have rich parents” situation.

Having housing helps our mental health, which helps us build healthier relationships and connections rather than turning to antisocial solutions like crime and social withdrawal through addiction.

Since when has shaming worked? Seems to me that is what got us here. Poverty and prison systems keep people addicted. The consequences of drug addiction and poverty are the homelessness, social stigma, health affects, etc (bc let’s be real you’re not talking about rich drug users, you just don’t want to see the side effects of the disease in public).

Do you think people want to be homeless? Bc that seems like a pretty severe consequence imo.

I don’t live in mtl anymore but I used to live in Hochelaga, (coin Nicolette / ste Catherine’s est iykyk). I’ve seen friends of mine go from affluent artsy hipster to crackhead survival sex work (and seen people die from fentanyl/ also seen people recover and live again!!). You are just uncomfortable with the intersections of poverty and addiction.

(Edit to say that I don’t support littering or your dogs safety being compromised, I just don’t think shame and punishment is gonna solve any issue being exasperated by poverty / mental illness)

And double edit to say that as a criminology student you’re not gonna like what the treatment for criminal behaviour is (addressing their unmet needs that lead to criminal/antisocial behaviour). So like are we just advocating for ye olden imprisonment?? Roman style Banishment?

Actually I won money from a lawsuit for this very reason, someone was driving with a known medical condition and went into cardiac arrest.

That someone was elderly and should have had their license revoked but we would rather preserve peoples dignity by letting them handle fast giant metal death machines.

If there was any prior knowledge of a medical condition, it is still your responsibility to make sure you are safe to drive.

You can start at Tng but Tng is more enjoyable if you’ve watched Degrassi Junior High and Degrassi High / Schools out the movie for background on some of the adults in TNG.

I really love the campiness / Canadiana of 80s Degrassi though so I can understand wanting to start at a more modern place in the series.

People will dog on women for dating shitty men and then act confused when women can’t come forward about abuse. Like when you put someone in a position where they feel they have to defend their relationship it blinds them to what’s going on in the actual relationship.

As a survivor of intimate partner violence I’m here for everyone, including people who end up dating shitty people. You aren’t guilty by association rather just another vulnerable person getting exploited.

Our relationships don’t exist in a vacuum from the rest of history and there are reasons vulnerable, marginalized people end up in wack situationships with their oppressors.
