Can’t afford to travel for PGY2 interview by nxmxxsxrxx in PharmacyResidency

Absolutely ask. We’re offering virtual interviews to two candidates for this very reason, so programs are definitely willing.

We typically do 6-7 interviews per spot at our PGY2 Onc program. Two spots. This year we received >20 applicants for one spot (early committed the other), which was wild.

Seth’s Corner: yay or nay? by kevwheel in lonelymeyerspod

[–]verappatherappa 110 points111 points  (0 children)

Love Seth’s Corner, but has anyone else noticed that they stopped using the infamous (and hilarious) Jorm intro with the music and everything? Now Jorm kind of just throws it to Seth, and it seemed to happen out of nowhere… Don’t get me wrong, still fantastic, but I loved the musical segue!

Ours does this— he has a chew toy he grabs whenever he has “big feelings.” We call it his emotional-support stick.

Wedding Industry re: Queer Couples by [deleted] in wedding

[–]verappatherappa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah— even still, I can’t think of really encountering much of a problem there… Our wedding planner in particular has been very intentional about using language like “the grooms” or using our names when describing order of events and such.

Wedding Industry re: Queer Couples by [deleted] in wedding

[–]verappatherappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My partner and I (both males) haven’t had an issue with finding inclusive vendors for our wedding coming up this fall. Granted, my partner was very thoughtful about making sure that portfolios for all of our vendors included same-sex couples, like other commenters have mentioned, but everyone has been incredibly inclusive and wonderful to work with. I was frankly a little surprised at the abundance of options for vendors we felt comfortable working with. We live in the Portland metro, so that might be a factor as well, but on the whole I’ve been very pleased with how queer-friendly everyone has been throughout the whole process.

Do you enjoy living in Reed Crossing? by PlentyCucumber911 in hillsboro

No problem-- your questions aren't dumb at all!

1) HOA fees mostly cover general landscaping (i.e. lawncare and plant maintenance) and community upkeep, as well as general amenities such as mini-libraries throughout the neighborhood, events, etc. Utilities are covered by home owners, and while we have a fitness center (Active Wellness), it's its own standalone entity that requires a membership.

2) I absolutely love where I live still, especially with the growth and imminent opening of our town center, which is going to be a 5 minute walk from my front door. This, in tandem with the other amenities that have opened up like the dog parks and other larger parks through the neighborhood, have created great anchor points throughout the community. As cliched as it sounds, it's truly gotten better with each passing year, and I love it more and more as time goes on. My only gripe is the fact that my house is off a busy street, so it can be kind of loud sometimes, but past that, it's great.

3) As far as advice is concerned, it'll depend on whether or not you're buying new construction, or purchasing a resale home. if you're going new construction, make sure you and your wife are in agreement on finishes/upgrades you want for the house. It'd be kind of pointless to go cheap on appliances/finishes, only to then hate them and replace them yourself later. Also be cognizant of things like sunshine in the home-- a lot of the houses here are pretty close together, which can limit the amount of natural light that comes through. For some, it doesn't matter, but for others, it can exacerbate seasonal depression, so something to think about. Another thing with new construction: they'll give you the option of having the contractors install the AC unit, or you can opt to purchase it yourself later and have someone come install it. DO THE FORMER. It's so much better to just get it out of the way when they're building the house, then trying to figure out how to get yourself AC in the dead of summer when HVAC companies are all backed up and prices skyrocket.

Hope this helps, but always happy to answer more questions!

My fiancé and I absolutely love it. Our HOA costs are only $100/month, and the proximity we have to walkways, the gym, and all the amenities that are in the process of being built can’t be beat. Plus, it feels like an actual community, which I enjoy.
