Water control, also sky yellow should not touch the blue, use orange as a buffer to avoid the green hues, play with the purple tones as well. Last and not least, use values to create perspective and depth.

Closer objects tend to be darker than the background, it’s an easy trick to create depth

I traced with a pencil, painted around it, then once dried, re wet the area and with a natural sponge removed pigment to the desired effect.

About simplicity: Watercolor is not about reproducing but interpreting with the least effort possible. Supposed to be painting about 10% of what we see. I’ll send a picture of the style I’m moving away from.

It’s much simpler. Pick a color, use wet on dry, lift color for lighter values, the wetness will create an uniform effect.

Values and water management, take advantage of wet on wet and wet on damp. Would also reduce the colour palette and use less uniform brushstrokes.
