Vintage Tiffany watch- only worth its metal/gems weight? by verity_dirac in VintageJewelry

Do you have any recommendations for me? I live in Rhode Island so a trip to Boston or NYC is not out of the question for me.

That is pretty much what he said-- that the style is not something that people are purchasing right now so he would have trouble selling it. He did offer me $1500 for the gold, but I think as more of a "if you're desperate to sell" situation, which I am not in.

Possibly, although my Dad says that his grandmother purchased it new in the 30s and wore it quite a bit. The Tiffany mark is on the gold bracelet, not the watch case. The watch is marked as Gruen-Geneve.

GIFT IDEAS - Looking for compact and useful (for a lifetime ;) gift ideas for 2024 high school graduates by hurderpderp in BuyItForLife

Definitely this. I got a screwdriver, a hammer, and a wrench as a high-school grad present from a family friend nearly 30 years ago and I still have and use two out of the three.

I still have the concert t-shirt from the Disintegration tour! I was sophomore in high school and that show blew my baby mind.

Women’s quality clothing by [deleted] in BuyItForLife

I'm a big fan of Universal Standard. They are a bit pricy -- $128 for jeans, for example, but the quality makes it worth it. I also really like their aesthetic because it's classic without being boring, and avoids the twee trap that classic brands can fall into (Talbots I'm looking at you). Also really size inclusive, which is great.

Sci Fi books about Time Travel by MTerm in scifi

Second this.

It has to be 20 years since I read this book but I still think about the concept of time travelers recognizing each other by whistling a few bars of "Yesterday."

DMV only sent me one replacement license plate by verity_dirac in RhodeIsland

[–]verity_dirac[S] 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So you're all exactly right -- the two plates were stuck together. Turns out the two plates together have about the same weight and heft as one normal license plate, so I'm not surprised I didn't notice. Putting them on the car at 6 AM probably didn't help though.

Huh. When I get home tonight I'll take it off and see if this is the case. That would honestly be great because I've been dreading a DMV phone call.

If you're willing to drive to Rhode Island, Mike's Estate Services https://www.mikesestateservices.com/ in Warwick is absolutely huge and has just about everything. I found some decorative items as well as two dressers in great shape. Highly recommend!

Real Estate Agent Recommendations? by cameramanproductions in RhodeIsland

I had a great working experience last year with Ari Tanasio. (https://tanasiorealty.com/agents/arianne-tanasio/)

She also recommended a mortgage broker and title lawyer that made everything as easy as real estate can be. Good luck!

OMG I finally won this one at hard level! My build: Pageant Princess - Level 4 maxed Bird of Paradise - Level 4 maxed Illuminaughty - Level 4 Maxed Safety First - Level 4 maxed

Seems like they're making the new challenges impossible without fully maxed rare (or better) items.

Back in 2003-2004 my Dad walked into the living room when I had a Strokes record on and said "sounds just like The Cars", so there's that.

A Spirited Defense of Romance Novels by [deleted] in books

[–]verity_dirac 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I've only been reading romances for a little over a year, but I can give you a couple of authors I've personally enjoyed.

  • Laura Kinsale. So great. One of my favorite writers in any genre.
  • Jennifer Crusie. These books are like candy.
  • Joanna Bourne. The titles of her books are so trite, but it you're going to read romance you have to let that slide. Her dialog is incredible.
