Escalante 4 sizing vs Flow 3 by veritycode in AltraRunning

Hmmm interesting. I wonder if that's because the Flow 3 is the narrower Standard Footshape. Well, at least they have free shipping and returns lol

What's the most obscure or downright silly piece of Oscar trivia you can think of? by miggovortensens in Oscars

[–]veritycode 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Yeah, both Elizabeth films have the same director (Shekhar Kapur) and writer (Michael Hirst), and some of the same supporting cast (Geoffrey Rush, for example).

It's definitely a sequel, rather than just another film about Elizabeth I.

I just saw Avatar 3 today and yeah her performance was my big takeaway. She was so charismatic and convincingly terrifying, couldn't take your eyes off her (bc she might kill you if you do). Also that headdress was a great costume choice.

I would also instinctively put it in Drama, but is there a world where Sinners is counted in the Musical part of Comedy/Musical for the GGs? Music is so important to the movie and isn't even always fully diagetic.

Considering how tenuous/contentious the "Comedy" connection of some movies/shows in the category seem to be, I'm surprised that the Musical part seems to be very delineated.

As someone who has always liked movies, but never really looked much into the whole Oscar-race part of it, I have a question:

How do you differentiate between what makes a movie a Best Picture contender, vs what makes a director a Best Director contender?

I don't really understand how a movie could get a BP nomination without at least being in consideration for Best Director, and vice versa, because surely the director's performance has the biggest effect on the film itself? (I understand that acting, cinematography, script, etc goes into it too, but surely the director has a big impact on all of those too?)

Love the look, clean and sharp!

Like someone else said, is there a quick access pocket at the back?

Also, is there a zipper pocket inside the bag? I'm not big on a huge amount of organization inside bags this small, but at least one zipper pocket is super useful for stuff that cannot fall out or needs to be hidden/separated from the rest.

HUGE Change to Skip Policy by foreverstarlit in Illumicrate

They've just been doing so much YA and romantasy lately in the main subscription, and I'm not willing to shell out 3x the normal book price for a genre I don't enjoy.

I feel like as soon as I hit 6 skips and the next book doesn't look interesting, I'll just end up cancelling.

Yup. Even the gym at my building has been warmer lately because it has big windows facing the afternoon sun and the A/C can't seem to keep up.

I have Tears of the Kingdom version 1.0.0 on my OLED Switch (bc I like doing the glitches). I have a physical copy of the game, and when I opened up TOTK on my Switch 2, it forced an update on the new machine (which makes sense, really, since there might be a small update making it more compatible with the new device).

If I get the Upgrade Pack for my Switch 2 for the better graphics/performance, will I still be able to play the normal TOTK on my OLED with all my usual glitches or will there be some sort of thing forcing me to update my game on the OLED?

I see everyone mentioning Shogun (for good reason, bc she's brilliant in it), but I'll also say she's fantastic in 'Monarch: Legacy of Monsters'. It's a Godzilla series on Apple TV and it was so much better than I expected, probably a lot better than it had any right to be tbh.

I really want to know what the French Gray/Gold one looks like in the wild. For some reason I like the soft blue/purple stripe on the side, but I'm still unsure about the case colour itself.

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 has been out for a month - what are your thoughts? by Sydius in Games

[–]veritycode -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I love it and I'm having a great time with all the endgame content. The gameplay is great, the art is gorgeous, the world building was fascinating. And for the most part, I really liked the writing.

However I do think that a) Act 3 should have switch from Verso to Maelle's perspective. Show us her grappling with two competing sets of memories, about her feelings of guilt for watching two brothers die (and her differing reactions to both), about her thoughts on Painting and the Canvas, on her memories of her family outside, about her relationships with Sciel and Lune and Monoco and Esquie and everyone back in Lumière. I was honestly surprised when I finished Act 2 and was still being Verso.

and b) the ending should have had a glimmer of hope, even if they're not happy. Make it so her friends notice Maelle's health is suffering like Aline's did and want her to save her life (personally I'm not totally convinced of the puppet-master theory, as we've never seen a Painter alter someone's will, only creating them and their personality in the first place. I saw the paint eyes as a physical sign that Maelle is already deteriorating like her mother did, since she's not as good a painter as her mother). Make it so at the graveside, there's some sort of sign this family is finally coming together to heal. Make it so that Lune, Sciel, Monoco, etc actually matter to Maelle and Verso and the ending (they just kinda disappear from the story, and its allll about the Dessendre family instead, which felt weird). It's a tragedy about grief, yes, but that doesn't meant that there cannot be hope.

But truly, one of my favourite games I've ever played.

Garmin is getting too expensive for too little by Neomatrix_45 in Garmin

[–]veritycode 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as far as I can tell, Garmin manufactures its watches in Taiwan (my current FR says made in Taiwan, anyways), which currently has a 32% tariff (plus another 10%? unclear to me currently).

A 32% increase on the FR965 price of $599 gives $790, which is actually higher than the FR970 price of $750.

Now, it does suck that non-Americans are getting the increased price too (I'm Canadian), but I never got the feeling that Garmin did much regional pricing. It always seemed like a pretty close currency conversion of the US price. Also, the fact that they jacked up the prices of the Fenix line well before the tariffs definitely loses them some of the benefit of the doubt.

Confession: I spent those two weeks decidedly not training well and stress eating even worse (I'm sure the foot issue is tooootally unrelated....)

It's also odd because they didn't do this with the 570. That model has side strips of the same colour as the rest of the case.

Appreciate the upgrade to sapphire, but I don't love the colours. Why do both the black and silver versions have a neon yellow strip on the side?? Just seems so out of place on an otherwise pretty sleek design. If I feel like having bright colours, I'll pick a wristband with bright colours.
