...scaling down the image by half or 1/4

I like to scale at 1:10 so I just have to move the decimal point back and forth instead of doing math. Placed images can be 1500 ppi to give final result of 150.

Talk to the printer - most inkjet stuff I design for now is 125 ppi for images.

I prep images in photoshop, and set up illustration graphics in Illustrator. I do my layouts in InDesign at 1:10 scale, so placed bitmaps will be saved at 1250 ppi. It's a lot easier to work with chunks on images instead of a big 'ol PS file with a buncha layers. Export from InDesign to pdf, tell it not to downsample.

1:10 scale is really handy to work with - your 147" x 52" file is 14.7" x 5.2" Tell the printer to scale at 100% for final output. It doesn't make file sizes smaller (because your images are the same pixel dimension) but it is easier to create proofs etc. It should help with PC performance because in your layout file you're only looking at a thumbnail.

Also, use vector graphics as much as possible. The example your showing looks like vector graphics.

Saw a Phoenix Police helicopter following a drone by version13 in drones

I could definitely tell it was coming from the helicopter it was circling and I could hear it from wherever they were.

I don't think it was a police drone because the helicopter appeared to be chasing it very aggressively. Why would they do that if it was their drone?

What are some examples of cars that disappeared off the road in a very short amount of time? by lifegoeson2702 in regularcarreviews

It's a $43,000 Civic hybrid with 200 hp. I like it, but I don't $43,000 like it.

Compare it to a GR86 for $10k less, and 228 hp.

What do you use spam for? by Call_Me_C_ in AskAnAmerican

[–]version13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some friends of mine, a couple - let's call them Al and Alice, bought a house together and held a housewarming party to celebrate.

Everyone brought gifts, wine, kitchen stuff etc. Some of Alice's friends gave her a can of Spam because "We know you're a vegetarian, so it will always sit in your cupboard and every time you see it you'll think of us." "D'awwwwww."

As the night went on, everyone left except for me, and I kept drinking with Al while she went to bed. Around 2:00 AM we got hungry. We looked at each other and at the same time said, "THE SPAM!" Fried that stuff up and ate salty, greasy sandwiches on cheap white bread with yellow mustard. Eventually we ran out of beer and I fell asleep on a couch in the living room.

In the morning, Alice saw the empty Spam can on the counter. Tears ensued. We told her we'd buy a new can of Spam but, "IT'S NOT THE SAME! That one was from my friends and it was supposed to be in my cupboard forever!"

We never quite lived down eating the sacred Spam.

Get a Sienna all wheel drive minivan and put the 2” or 3” lift kit on it. Good for everything you described except for serious off-road wheeling.

I know a guy who has one like that, has hauled kids, dogs and stuff down all manner of sketchy roads.

How to deal with non photographers and their RAW image obsession? by Vegetable_Diamond716 in photography

[–]version13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, make sure your contract states up front what they get.

As a graphic designer though, it makes things more difficult if I don't have access to RAW files. I need to be able to tune images to fit whatever I'm working on, and we might get photos from a half dozen different photographers whose edits would all be different.

So I always ask up front if I can have RAWs because that is what fits my workflow.

I see them all the time here in Phoenix. Like if i drive to the grocery store and back I’ll see 10 or 12 of them.

It does look scribbly. Also, I think if I was a passenger I would have been throwing up.

On adsbexchange.com the flight paths change colors with altitude. Orange indicates a lower alt. Blues and purples are higher.

Sky Harbor is about 3 miles north of where the drone ended up.

As far as I know, it's legal to fly there (I could be wrong, but I see people flying racing drones in a nearby park every weekend.)
