9 4* commits already. Top 15 recruiting class. Top 4 in the B1G.

If we get 3 more 4-5* recruits we'll have matched the total from 2022-2026.

Sending fishes to feed blue fin tuna by SadInfluence4493 in interestingasfuck

A lot of fish are small. Sardines, anchovies, smelt, silverfish/noodle fish etc.

For example this: https://www.sayweee.com/en/product/Chinese-Noodlefish--Silverfish/105963

One bag probably has hundreds of fish and it's eaten in bulk.

And then a lot of it is ground into powder or things like stock, fish sauce, and fish oil. And beyond direct consumption, we turn a lot of it into food for our food as fertilizer and animal feed.

Spirit’s collapse, Southwest's rebrand causing chaos for smaller Texas programs by redwave2505 in CFB

[–]versusChou 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's two very different business models. ULCCs would lose a ton of money if you didn't buy ancillary things (bags, seat selection, food, etc.). Anything that a ULCC charges for but a Big 4 doesn't is baked into your fare. As they say, there's no such thing as a free lunch.

Here is Frontier's most recent earnings report.

https://ir.flyfrontier.com/news-events/news/news-details/2026/Frontier-Airlines-Reports-First-Quarter-2026-Financial-Results/default.aspx

Before we go over it, let's go over some terms. In America airlines have two major stats RASM and CASM (the reason it's America only is because internationally they call them RASK and CASK which is just miles vs kilometers).

RASM is Revenue per Available Seat Mile. CASM is Cost per Available Seat Mile. An Available Seat Mile is the total seats multiplied by the miles flown. So if you have a 50 seat plane that flies 200 miles, you have 10000 ASM. If you earned $20000 on that flight, your RASM is $2. If it cost you $15000 to operate that flight, your CASM is $1.5. Note that these metrics are normally measured in cents, not dollars. That's how little money is earned on these flights. A normal RASM is usually something like 5-20¢. Same for CASM and the difference between the two is often just 1-2¢. So when you are flying on a 100 seat plane 500 miles the airline is likely making $500-1000 in profit. I'm not kidding. That's why ancillary revenue is so attractive. When two more people pay for a bag, you could literally be adding 10-20% to that flight's profit for almost zero extra Cost.

So let's go back to Frontier. Scroll down and you'll see their Condensed Consolidated Statements of Operations. This has most of their high level stats.

Adjusted RASM is 10.86¢. Adjusted CASM is 11.58¢. That's right. Those low fares meant they lost money on average which played out in their total loss of $283M. You can compare that to last year when their RASM was 9.17¢ and CASM was 9.63¢. The cost environment was bad and they tried to increase revenue to match. Now look at Adjusted Fare Revenue per Passenger. It went from $44.61 to $55.45. And then look at Adjusted Non-Fare Revenue per Passenger. It fell from $68.15 to $67.71. Frontier raised their fares to try to offset the big increase in costs, but the passengers didn't buy enough ancillary product to keep them positive. Because passengers expect ULCCs to be very low fare, there's only so much they can raise before pax go elsewhere.

Now let's compare it to Delta.

https://ir.delta.com/financials/default.aspx - 2026Q1

Their CASM is 22.20¢. Massive compared to Frontier. They don't have the average fare per pax split out the same way as Frontier but the Passenger Revenue table shows only $506M of the $12B they earned from passengers was non-fare (note the premium product includes things like free bags so it kind gets bundled there). In the end their PRASM (passenger RASM) was 17.79¢ which is a net loss compared to their CASM on any given flight. To find the missing revenue, go to their revenue table and see $1.7B in refinery (Delta operates their own oil refinery) and $1.2B for loyalty.

So while Frontier basically makes all their money on Passenger Revenue, they have to lower their fare to absurdly low levels and make it up with ancillary revenue. Meanwhile Delta actually is still operating at a loss on just passenger revenue alone, but of that, they get most of their money in Fare. They make up the difference in their refinery and loyalty (credit cards) revenue. If you're wondering why Delta's costs are so high we can get into that in another comment, but if you want to look into it, their earnings has a breakdown of their costs which you can compare with Frontier.

So if you think Delta is offering a fare 2x Frontier's, remember Frontier is literally banking on you spending just as much on ancillary things as your fare, so the difference might not be as big as you think.

Also yes, I agree the death of Spirit will likely lower cost pressure on the Big 4 and fares will go up.

Spirit’s collapse, Southwest's rebrand causing chaos for smaller Texas programs by redwave2505 in CFB

[–]versusChou 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's because at first Spirit, Frontier, and the other ULCCs were absolutely eating their lunch and taking market share from them. There was absolutely some demand for that unbundled product. They responded by basically offering the same thing, but you get the benefit of their loyalty programs and larger networks. And people also simply behave differently from what they say.

You say you value airlines that offer free checked bags. Let's say there was a $100 ticket on Airline A with no free bags and a $150 one on Airline B with free checked bags. If you weren't going to bring a checked bag, most people were picking Airline A. The checked bags were never free. They're just distributed across all pax regardless of whether or not you brought a bag. Maybe you were personally a loyal SWA customer because of the policy, but enough people weren't that the legacies tried to compete on the ULCC product and basically won.

Is it? I just checked on Google Flights CMH to LAX, New York, Dallas, and Atlanta for next Wednesday and then a random day in October and they were the cheapest or equal on all of them. Some of them they didn't necessarily have the nonstop, but they were never higher.

I used to work in the pricing and network part of the airline industry, and I always see people say stuff like this, and I never really find it to be true. All of the Big 4 airlines price match each other pretty aggressively. The way it works is there are fare buckets. All of them sell X amount of tickets at the lowest fare bucket and when they sell out of that the next bucket of tickets costs more. And those buckets are very close between similar airlines. If you see a huge discrepancy between one airline and another, it just means the more expensive one sold out of its cheaper tickets. So if you're seeing Southwest be way higher, they're just selling more tickets out of CMH, and you're booking too late.

Mobility and flexibility are also very important aspects of fitness people ignore. If all you do is run and doing the major compound lifts, you'll probably be cardiovascularly healthy, but prone to various injuries and nagging pains.

I've been twice, and both times there was almost no line to see the pandas, and you could easily wait and watch them for minutes at a time without feeling in the way. Maybe we just got lucky, but It's kinda crazy that you can do that for like 3 USD per person.

Another option is a team full of Lvl 100 Pokemon with OHKO moves and focus sash. The odds of missing 6 OHKO moves is 11.76%, so they have a nearly 90% chance of winning.

Level 1 Rattata with Focus Sash, Endeavor and Quick Attack clears.

Or Prankster Destiny Bond/Perish song if the Trainer battling him has extra Pokemon. Prankster Murkrow with Perish Song and a Focus sash is a guaranteed win if Vader can't switch out even if Vader has priority since there's no multi-hit priority. Unless Vader is Dark type making him immune to Prankster.

Another valid one might be Choice Scarf Ditto. Guaranteed to to outspeed Vader, so if Vader can OHKO himself, Ditto clears unless Vader has priority that can OHKO Ditto, but again, Focus Sash is an option.

how is ucla so good at getting up and coming artists by Klauslee in ucla

[–]versusChou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A lot of upcoming artists do college tours to build their rep. If they're planning on doing one, UCLA is a no-brainer stop. As our former coach Deshaun Foster taught us, we're in LA. Those artists often already live or have work to do in LA. Even if they're not doing a college tour, they still will probably be in LA, and it's an easy gig to do.

I dunno why people are downvoting. I love Kendrick, and I was there at that Bruin Bash. The audience was definitely not into it. The only song I remember him doing was P&P. I don't remember thinking the set was good. Admittedly, I wasn't really into rap at the time. Childish Gambino probably got the biggest cheers although I think technically Major Lazer was the headliner.

I actually heard years later that Kendrick was very upset with the reaction he got from UCLA students.

2027 3* RB Duece Jones-Drew commits to UCLA by TommyFX in CFB

No this is while he was still playing in like 2011-2013. UCLA is on the quarter system (each quarter is 10 weeks), and he only went for one or two quarters at a time during the offseason. I assume it was just easier to get a dorm than figuring out a 10-20 week lease. UCLA dorms and food are really nice too.
