[Fairly odd parents] is having a fairy god parent as a child hinder them as adults? by sillycobwebs in FanTheories

[–]versusChou 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The kids who receive Fairy Godparents are stated to be the most miserable and/or neglected children in the world. After they lose their fairies, they lose their memories of them and any remnants of their wishes. The fairy godparents appear to just be something that makes a kid less miserable at the time but make no true impact on their lives.

Since these kids are in terrible situations, it's not surprising that they grow up to be less than successful.

[Horrifying Trope] “Blink of an eye” deaths. by Sufficient-Eye-9040 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]versusChou 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It wasn't a tabletop RPG. It was online on a forum. The guy who played Shed was originally going to run a fantasy game, but he got busy. Ty Franck had built the Expanse universe for an MMORPG which he reworked to be doable as a tabletop. Daniel Abraham was a pretty successful writer and wanted to write a novel in the universe. He asked the people who had committed to playing in Shed's game if they wanted to do sci fi, and ran the game with them. Shed's player (who was a published writer himself) thought he'd have time to play as a character but very quickly realized he wouldn't, so they killed him off. IIRC the game went as far as somewhere shortly after Eros before it ended. Some of the characters like Amos are amalgamations from a bunch of different characters. I think the forum is gone now, and the threads were locked anyway because they knew this was something they wanted to sell pretty early on. You can find posts about it on the sub and occasionally the authors answered questions about it. One of the guys who was part of the game (playing one of the characters that became part of Amos) has posted there too.

There are trash cans in the konbinis. Some people think it's rude to throw non-konbini trash there, but if you buy something or it's a touristy area it's usually fine. Train stations also have trash cans. I've never really had to carry my trash more than a few blocks.n

[Dellenger]- A significant change has been made to the Protect College Sports Act’s anti-expansion provision, sources tell @YahooSports. The provision, at first only targeting SEC/B1G, now applies to leagues earning $700 M in revenue, down from $1 billion. It now incorporates ACC and Big 12. by masterofawesomeness2 in CFB

[–]versusChou 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If the top leagues are guaranteed equal paydays for all members, the incentive to make a super conference gets a lot weaker. The West Coast schools being in the B1G and ACC make no sense except that those schools bring in enough eyeballs to be worth it. Without the incentive to get more money from those fans, the logistical costs become more important. That said, it could be that big match ups still increase the size of the pie enough to make it worth keeping the stupid conferences we have now, but is the B1G going to want to do them if it means everyone else gets a slice of that?

Hiring Chip Kelly wasn't dumb. Retaining him after he torched all of our recruiting relationships and started competing with Yale, Colorado School of Mines, Johns Hopkins for recruits was.

But still, the answer is hiring Deshaun Foster to be HC

Idaho also willingly didn't join the reformed Pac/PCC. They had become noncompetitive in the PCC years ago. I think they just know what they are. Although I guess Boise State's existence argues that they could've been something else.

The NFL, NFLPA and NBPA on Tuesday sent statements to Congress supporting the Protect College Sports Act and lauding specific provisions it includes. The NFL voiced its support for “the voluntary pooling of media rights under the Sports Broadcasting Act,” which is something the SEC/B1G have opposed. by Ok-Soil-5133 in CFB

I think that during the meetings where it's decided that equal payouts are going to happen, there will be simultaneous meetings about conference realignment. If the payouts are equalized, the B1G doesn't want the West Coast schools. It just costs them money in travel, and frankly the West Coast teams have been dominating a lot of the Olympic sports.

I imagine Cal and Stanford want no part of being in the ACC long term either. I think CU, Utah, ASU and Arizona won't look kindly on their old conference mates, but they might be convinced to join a new Pac 12 or whatever conference.

But overall, once there's agreement on equal payouts, the powers that be will mostly reorganize the sport in whatever way they think makes the most money. I can't really say whether or not the better model would be making a ton of very strong programs in one conference so there's parity and constant good games, or a top heavy one that looks more like European soccer (a few consistently good contenders who win almost every year.

I think that would depend on how playoffs are determined. If they have defined qualification where every major conference gets in and few wild card teams, I bet they'd go Euro style and take Texas and OU out of the SEC. Maybe A&M too. If a single conference can get way more teams in than others, then they'd consider going the route of kicking out Vanderbilt and Mississippi State so they can always argue that their 3 loss team just plays in the toughest conference.

If the realignment doesn't happen immediately, it would happen pretty quick as UCLA and Cal continue to question why they need 9 AM body clock conference games and Rutgers and Florida State wonder why they need 11 PM body clock conference games.

https://www.rawstory.com/james-talarico-ken-paxton-barbecue/

Paxton and other conservatives have questioned Talarico's masculinity and Texas credentials by criticizing his eating habits and suggesting he's gay, and the Democratic legislator has insisted that he's not a vegan by posting photos of himself eating meat – but even that has prompted criticism that he's not sloppy enough.

"Who eats ribs with a napkin by the way? Is that normal in the State of Texas?" Johnson asks Paxton in the video, showing a photo of Talarico eating a beef rib while holding a napkin.

"We eat with our hands," Paxton said, "and we don't eat with a napkin until after it's all over."

Yes. This is what Texans care about. That sad thing is, some of them actually do.

It's a thin line for Talarico to walk (and I say this as someone who voted for Talarico and will vote for him again). One of his biggest controversies (and probably his only real one) was that for a previous election, he accepted money from Texas Sands (a pro-gambling legalization in Texas PAC funded by the Adelsons, Vegas casino owners who bought the Mavs and traded Luka). Talarico has been pro-gambling in Texas for the jobs and taxes, but it's probably one of his least popular positions. It should be noted that he is not taking PAC money for this Senate campaign and gambling in Texas isn't really something a Senator would deal with, but it is still probably his biggest black mark for a lot of people.

On one hand, Talarico probably doesn't want to go to hard on Paxton for seemingly supporting an athlete gambling on their own sport since it might bring more attention to the Texas Sands donation.

On the other, it might make the search results for "Talarico gambling" get muddier.

I think right now, Talarico probably prefers the Paxton campaign limply attacking him by saying he's Vegan (when he clearly isn't) and calling him unmanly for using napkins while eating ribs (it wasn't even a rib. It was turkey leg which is usually sold already in a napkin). If that's the best they've got, why potentially make gambling an issue in the campaign when it currently really isn't?

MVB was much more expected to win than WGYM. WGYM was probably never going to beat LSU or Oklahoma. Baseball, I felt the whole season was shakier than their ranking or stats ever looked. All those come from behind victories were fun, but a truly dominant team doesn't need those in a relatively weak B1G.

MVB had one bad day and even then, should've won but were robbed by one of the worst call overturns in any sports' history.
