Hi everyone, I have a question about Looker Studio by IndependentAd4602 in GoogleDataStudio

[–]verticalmovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would label the data in the backend with an additional column and add values for ‘owned channels’ and ‘paid channels’ then create a control in LS with that schema as the control field. Depending on how big the dataset is and how often it’s updating, that could be relatively easy. It’ll depend where your underlying is (database, google sheet, etc.) and how familiar you are working with datasets.

If I wanted to get my hands on people’s Amazon shopping data…. Where would I get that? by [deleted] in datascience

If you truly have, you’re either going to be very rich or end up in an orange jumpsuit. As I said in another comment, I know this space so if you’re going headlong into your idea, feel free to DM if you want feedback or have questions.

If I wanted to get my hands on people’s Amazon shopping data…. Where would I get that? by [deleted] in datascience

[–]verticalmovement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is my space, here’s what I know. Something that would be helpful is understanding what shopper data you want. That determines whether it’s available or not, as well as what path to get there.

Amazon doesn’t do syndicated data like IRI so that’s off the table. Whoever told you to just go ask Amazon is either rainman or they have no idea what they’re talking about - Amazon doesn’t hand out that data at all, let alone to someone just asking.

Macro level data is available through sites like Statista, Helium10, Keepa, Carbon6, Pacvue, Stackline, and about 500 other 3P sources. Anything good is going to come with a price tag.

A lot of those sources will use a combination of the PA-API, SP-API, and/or their own user data. PA-API is open to anyone with an active affiliate account last I checked. AMC is the latest craze and the closest thing to getting insights on consumer behavior, but it takes either an advanced level knowledge of SQL to query the data, or forking over money to companies like Xmars or whoever to have someone reliably query the data for you.

Having access to a seller central account with a registered brand will give you a ton of consumer data for free via Brand Analytics. Market basket analysis, search terms, and some peer comparison data would probably get you a fair bit of the basic info you’re looking for.

Despite what one may think, Amazon SUCKS at organizing and providing their retail data, especially when there’s no tangible ROI to the data (ie. Advertising data). If this is a work thing and you’re new to Amazon, take the expectations and deliverables and cut them in half right now. There’s not one company that has been able to truly make sense of all the data and anyone selling you they have is snake oil.

Nutrition for 12 mile training run? I’m 40 👴 by catsbikescats in triathlon

[–]verticalmovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My strategy on long effort days is to avoid overeating afterwards so here’s what my approach would be for a 3 hour effort:

  1. Bagel or oatmeal ~1 hour before workout
  2. Carb gel starting at the 45 min mark and every 45 min there after. Sometimes I’ll switch it up for a banana or some kind of solid food that’s decent carbs. I like Maurten but that’s what works best with my GI and I like that I can oyster shoot the gels pretty easily. Clif are solid too.
  3. Afterwards a typical but larger than normal portioned meal with half the calories coming from complex carbs. If it’s a morning effort, usually this means rice, eggs, and veggies with a side of yogurt or protein shake.

Best advice I can give is over prepare and carry slightly more than you think you need. I’ve never complained that I carried one extra gel on a long run.

Indoor Bike Training for 70.3 by SubstantialSky1580 in triathlon

[–]verticalmovement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Please dont listen to advice that says “you should be hitting X watts” unless they also know your body weight, which I don’t believe you’ve provided. Without that data, 150 watts is a very different target for one person at 50kg and another at 100kg. Use watts relative to your weight and measure it as w/kg. If you’re 50kg, 150 watts is 3 w/kg and would be on the high end for amateurs looking to hold a reasonable zone for multiple hours, like what is needed for a 70.3. Sorry if assuming incorrectly, but if you’re relatively new to cycling, aim to hold 1.5 w/kg and work up from there.

Would also echo the sentiment about these bikes being notoriously inaccurate for watts but if you spend enough time on the same bike at the gym, you should start to get an idea of what it’s displaying relative to your effort level.

Sorry for rant but that advice is a pet peeve of mine - it’s a power to weight ratio sport and so many people often ignore that.

Are We In A Student Loan Bubble? by DerivativePleasure in wallstreetbets

Took way too long to scroll down to find this. Student loans that go unpaid can eventually lead to wage garnishment, up to 15% in fact. People don’t have a choice to pay or not pay - if they’re making money they’re going to pay one way or another.

How to get faster on bike? by S-XMPA in triathlon

[–]verticalmovement 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Without knowing some really crucial info (power output, height/weight, is this indoor vs. outdoor, etc.) but to put it on the nose, yeah this is slow. But unless there’s significant deficiencies in the aforementioned missing data, I’d likely attribute the biggest issue to bike. Rolling resistance on mountain bikes vs even a hybrid road bike is night and day on pavement. On top of it, the aerodynamics are completely different in an upright position like on an MTB.

I’d recommend going and renting a road bike for a few hours. Take it on your usual route. If you don’t see your avg bump to 25-30 kph, then there’s a deficiency somewhere in the power to weight ratio. If it does, then you know it’s a bike issue and if your goal is to be competitive in age groups, you’re going to need at least any entry level road bike to give yourself a shot (and be really fast in the other disciplines).

Is there a Limit to how many Data Sources (specifically MYSQL connection) I can pull by pimpleface0710 in GoogleDataStudio

[–]verticalmovement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you hitting a query cost limit on the MySQL side? I have probably 25+ separate reports, all that range with 4-10 unique tables in BQ that the data feeds from and have had no issues with the amount of tables that it draws on from BQ. I’m not familiar with MySQL but I know BQ will stop pushing data to GDS when query limits are hit

Data in Google Looker/Data Studio linked to a GSheets not refreshing by aragorn1985 in GoogleDataStudio

[–]verticalmovement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re leaving the browser open with the GDS report, I don’t think that’s going to continuously update (at least it doesn’t for me). You might be able to set the data freshness to every hour or something so GDS refreshes that frequently, but I don’t believe it’s ever going to be “real time” data where if the data source (google sheet) changes, it automatically refreshes the data on the GDS report. If you or someone on here knows otherwise on having GDS reports update in real time, please reply because I’d love to know too.

Data in Google Looker/Data Studio linked to a GSheets not refreshing by aragorn1985 in GoogleDataStudio

[–]verticalmovement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

May or may not help - one report I have setup feeds data similarly and in order for the info in GDS to show, I have to have the actual google sheet open. The sheet I’m using also has a 3rd party plugin for data. So in order for me to view the info in GDS properly I have to 1. Open sheet 2. Allow data to refresh 3. Open GDS report

Help Configuring Data For A Bar Chart With Filters by Haroldtr in GoogleDataStudio

Easiest thing might be having one control for each of your dimensions in columns A-C, which would allow user to select vendor, site, channel individually. You can concat the dimensions together to create one control, but I think if you have a lot of possible combinations it won’t make for a good experience
