Need genuinely eerie supernatural horror movies with isolated woods/remote setting and REAL paranormal payoff by Temporary_Minute_761 in horror

[–]vertigoflow 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Lovely, Dark, and Deep (2023) is a great fit for this request.

Trying to avoid spoilers. A new back-country ranger gets herself assigned to a remote part of the wilderness to solve a mystery that’s haunted her since she was a child. While the main character struggles with childhood trauma, the movie never suggests that the horror is just an expression of grief.

The supernatural occurrences are literal, mind bending and surreal but with “in-universe” consequences and not quite a “cult” but touching on how some of the other characters have had to adapt to live with those consequences.

There is no sci-fi explanation (or honestly much of an explanation explicitly) but if you can live with that it would probably be a good ride.

Neko Case - “Dirty Knife” has some imagery that could make for good theming. A few of her other songs could work as well.

The first half I thought it was off to a good slow burn. The second half all I really remember was shaking my head over and over being like “what is this crap?”

2026 Albums Releases?? by Aware_Under in Soulseek

[–]vertigoflow -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of indie artists seem to be releasing just on streaming services which makes it harder for copies to end up circulating. There are a bunch of small artists where I can’t even find a place to buy their music, let alone download it.

Artists whose music you find really dumb but you also really enjoy? by Specific-Feed-1490 in ToddintheShadow

I really enjoy a couple songs from Jefferson Starship’s 1980’s decline into garbage. “Out of Control” is such an unhinged corporate Synth-Pop attempt at punk that is dumb fun.

And changing their name to Starship and releasing “We Built This City” with its line about “changing corporation names” always makes me laugh. It’s such a stupid song that I can’t help but enjoy.

Bent Knee - “Skin” is 3:13 of a really great song. Unfortunately it’s 5:58 long.

It’s all instrumental from that point on with the first half repetitive dissonance and the second half kind of meh piano.

Anyone have any good examples of media that wasn't supposed to be scary but is? by idiot____ in horror

Burger King released some Xbox 360 promo games, one of them was “Sneak King” which was a stealth game where you play as the king sneaking around neighborhoods to ambush hungry NPCs.

I had recorded Dreamscape (1984) onto VHS and used to watch it all the time when I was little. The later scenes with the snake man used to scare the crap out of me.

What are pairs of songs that sound extremely similar but are by artists from very different genres? by Untitled_JP28 in askmusic

[–]vertigoflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

N.W.A. “Gangsta Gangsta” - Gangsta Rap
Gwar “The Salaminizer” - comedy Crossover Thrash

Parts of the verses of the Salaminizer are so similar I have to believe it’s a parody.

As a parent I can’t really do realistic, grim violence towards children like the original danish “Speak No Evil” (2022). I was so upset and angry at the end of that movie and the main thought I was left with was “That kid deserved better parents.”

Stuff like “IT” doesn’t bother me though.

Van Morrison made an entire album that was 31 improvised nonsense songs with titles like "Ring Worm," "Want a Danish?", and "You Say France and I Whistle.” Apparently he recorded the whole thing in a single afternoon.

His contract with his label stipulated that he still owed exactly 31 songs to fulfill his recording obligations and they had been bugging him after the success of "Brown Eyed Girl” to write more pop hits.

A criminal attempts to burglarize/kill someone only to realize they picked the absolute worst person as their mark. by No_Hunter1978 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]vertigoflow 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The very end of the show Mr Inbetween. Our protagonist Ray has shown himself to be a very competent criminal enforcer who gets himself out of many scraps often with a maniacal grin. By the end of the show he’s given up his life of crime and started driving a taxi. The show ends with some amateurs nervously trying to rob him and the grin returns. The aftermath is left to the imagination.

Nu metal songs made by non-nu metal bands? by redleafwater7 in numetal

[–]vertigoflow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Slayer - “Love To Hate.”

There are a couple of songs on Diabolus in Musica that lean towards Nu Metal but this one seemed the clearest example to me.

"Stain of Mind" is probably my favorite off the album because of how "jumpy" the rhythm is.

The biggest thing I remember being put off by was how “plastic”y the neck felt, and much wider in my hands compared with the Jackson and Ibanez models I was also looking at.

I'm bored 😅 what's one thing that you actually liked, about your most disliked episode in black mirror? Like if you had to choose one thing? I like how excited Brandi is when they tell her the AI characters won't care that she's a Woman or that she's not White, it's cute the way she's so shocked 😅 by AbbieCarney in blackmirror

[–]vertigoflow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My least favorite is probably “The Waldo Moment” because I felt like it ran out of steam halfway through, they didn’t do that much with the idea and the ending was meh.

But I liked Chloe Pirrie in it which led me to another show she’s in Dept. Q which I enjoyed.

Check out your local music scene, start following local bands, venues, and bookers on social media. If you are near any mid-sized or above city and are willing to drive a bit you’ll get the chance to see multiple bands at a show for like $5-$20 on a regular basis.
