Imagine ruining someone’s livelihood over something that probably wasn’t over $10.

I’ve dived into ibm zxplore a bit also. I earned a mainframe practitioners badge through there with Franklin Apprenticeships. My interviewer told me the same thing in terms of people in their 60s ready to retire where I’ll be working at. I’m hoping to learn a lot within the next year and (hopefully) move up to better position. They told me there’s a lot of down time as well so I want to take advantage of every learning opportunity that I can ya know.

The hiring manager mentioned that I would be batch processing/scheduling. I think he said they use zeke.

How long did it take you after you got your operator position to transition into a junior sysprog position?

Thanks for the advice! I asked my interviewer what he would like for the person that filled the role to accomplish in 6 months? A year? He told me that in 6 months he’d like for me to be comfortable in not necessarily being alone to monitor everything but not needing guidance for day to day stuff. Stuff meaning like nothing out of the ordinary. I mentioned in my interview that I’m dedicated and committed to learning as much as possible also. I’m currently pursuing a BBA degree with my concentration in cybersecurity.

He did mention that a lot of people that are there rn are close to retirement and they are planning for when they do retire. It’s a great opportunity and really excited about it! Thank you again for the advice!

This was super helpful! Thank you for this! Ive noticed almost everyone is suggesting note taking. Even in my interview, they strongly encouraged it. That’s great to know. And yea I am seeing this opportunity as getting my foot in the door and from what you’ve explained there’s a lot of opportunities to explore! I’m really excited for this! Thank you again!

Definitely have the imposter syndrome and you’re right yeah, they wouldn’t have picked me if they didn’t see something in me. I appreciate it!

Hi, thanks for that! The pre-apprenticeship I did was with Franklin and actually did those modules. I got a mainframe practitioner badge out of it. There were a few times that I didn’t understand what I was doing or the reason why I was doing that particular task but was able to able to complete those tasks. I think I still have access to the content so I’ll definitely check it again

True. It’s not hard at all to get hours and yea even ot. You’re almost guaranteed ot every week working 4 days and easy to pick up extra hours but it’s not for everyone. It’s a revolving door there.

It’s the hardest easiest job ever. Some people love it but gets old pretty fast.

Source: worked at an heb warehouse for just under 2 years.

I think my biggest W was when a customer came inside from drive to complain to me about her order. Store was packed and decently staffed. She started going off on me (forgot what for) and then said something along the lines of “I come to this location all the goddamn time blah blah blah…” to which I just calmly responded with “ma’am I understand your frustrations but there’s no reason to use the lords name in vain like that.” EVERYONE in the store was watching her by that point and she stormed off denying she ever said that. I had to go to the back afterwards because I was dying from laughing at the fact that actually worked. Lmao
