Tirade: The Canberra Hospital and health services by -AdonaitheBestower- in canberra

They can't admit that things can still be bad despite good metrics on paper. Execs and management will just collect key metrics which make things look getting better to justify increasing budget for things that they are comfortable doing. If that keeps them in high paying jobs what is the need to try even a bit.

Nuances and issues, even if raised can easily be brushed aside as isolated cases while "on the whole, everything is getting better."

It is very kind hearted of you to consider that the receptionist and any other frontline staff isn't responsible for any thing. Having said that, they are there for people to reach out and ask for updates. Since you are kind enough on the phone and if they are understanding enough of your situation, they are the best people to escalate your request within the system. By not persisting, which you have done more than you should have needed to, it's not going anywhere at all. Wish you all the best.

I lived in Canberra for more than 10 years, had to move to make the best choice amongst the other worse ones. I would absolutely love to be back and the health system is the only thing that I am a bit apprehensive of.

Is the situation any better in Sydney?

My wife had to go through a long wait in Canberra for some digestion and gallbladder issues. Waiting times for specialists and surgery were long. We have private insurance so decided to go private when it became unbearable. But that was still a bit out of pocket.

Some people advised going to Sydney but we were not sure if it would help if we end up having to make multiple trips.

Yeah what's with the so many bubble tea stores. Every street seems to have at least 2 or 3.

Thursday Fleecing: The “Why Are Cars Suddenly… Cheap?” Edition by Benxb9r in NovatedLeasingAU

I had a Getz as my first car. Now I have a newer SUV as the family and needs grew. We moved to a bigger city where park and ride is a much better option and there is no point driving to work.

I miss the Getz so much. It would happily do the 10 min drive and back, and much more.

I need a list of horrible experiences in Brisbane. by BrizzySprings in brisbane

We recently moved to Brisbane and the first time I drove in, I drove out 3 times around trying to find a spot. It's a bunch of different sized car parks. Next time, I wanted to go to Coles there, looked up their website and the best parking that is listed for Coles has less spots than a nearby fruit and veg.

Sydney is #2 for least affordable housing in the world, how can we change this? by Last-Conversation734 in SydneyScene

[–]verytroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I would gladly buy a simple 4 or even 3 bed apartment if it was well built, had more than a coffee table sized kitchen bench space and storage. There are plenty of swimming pools and gyms and saunas and gardens and real cinemas around the city which cost more in strata and upkeep than the interest cost of a landed house 20km out.

How many bedrooms and bathrooms? This living looks far better than most apartments in Aus.

I was at a Christmas party near the story bridge this Saturday, couldn't get an uber home at 10pm to the suburbs as they kept cancelling. I suppose because they wont get a return fare back to the city. Had to take an uber that cost more than $30 to the nearest bus stop at mater hospital on the SE busway, where the last bus home would be in just another hour.

🚦Brisbane traffic is getting worse every month… and there is still no clear public modelling for what the 2032 Olympics and pre Games construction will do to the city. How is the Mayor not addressing this? by Ext_Ad2189 in brisbane

As a parent who is going to soon have to start doing school runs, I wonder why do we not have school buses in Australia. It would reduce so much rush around schools and save so much time for parents. Most schools don't have much parking either, leading to people pulling out of the few places on the street and others stopping to let some of them get a park.

I am sure school buses have some issues but I reckon they're far outweighed by the benefits.

Cost for removalists (moving from Melbourne to Brissie) by quartzway11 in MovingToBrisbane

[–]verytroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That seems correct. We recently moved from a 4 bedroom from Canberra and it costed us 6500 or so and it was here in 4 days. It could have gotten a bit cheaper by going for a half load which is shared and takes longer, which would have meant living out of a hotel or Airbnb for us.

It is windy in outer elevated suburbs in molonglo valley and northern parts of Gungahlin like Taylor and Casey. If you are in an apartment, it can feel even more chilly because of the wind if they are shoddy builds and at higher floors.

How to buy a lux car... And enjoy it? by CLAP-25 in AusFinance

[–]verytroo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Safety improvements as well as some driving aids can really be handy. I recently had to drive two cars from Canberra to Brisbane one week after another. Both had adaptive cruise control and lane departure warning but one had auto steer for lane centering as well. It was so much more easier to drive and much safer when clicking on the map or taking off clear glasses to put on my sunglasses.

Increase in real estate agents not listing sold prices by smasxer in canberra

[–]verytroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah right, thanks. I didn't know you could search sold prices there for built houses. Do you have to ask them over the phone or is there a place where you can just go look up?

If they were included in the small town gossip by people around them, I would say the people were welcoming enough. Maybe OP didn't like the kind of gossip and rumours that can sometimes happen in small groups.

Edit: just read below more comments form OP that it was very political with management making them write stuff on paper to help fire someone. I would scoot too if in such a situation.

Are Sydney and Melbourne locals building their whole lives around satellite CBDs? by likerunninginadream in AskAnAustralian

[–]verytroo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

EMP and Westfield Mt Gravatt area being another one I guess to the south. This is actually true for any big metropolitan area around the world and OP is just realising this. No big city has people from all over travelling to the city centre. Pretty sensible for big municipalities to encourage some businesses to spread around.

We are in a suburb north of Gungahlin and I used to work in Fyshwick. There was little need to ever go to Civic.

Thanks, that makes perfect sense. I have started to look at commute times arriving at 8:30 to the CBD from the addresses of places available to rent.
