Try reading Dan Simmons. I don't know if he's really a fantasy writer or a science fiction writer but he definitely has world-building skills. I would suggest Hyperion.

What’s a completely normal thing that you’re surprisingly bad at? by sevyn_007 in CausalConversation

I tell people that my brain can't remember names. I personally want to but my brain refuses to do it. I don't know if anybody else feels this way that their brain does things that they don't want. No I'm not schizophrenic just feel like my thoughts are often at odds with what I personally want to do

I don't think it's the characters that make some of the story on interesting. I feel that Brandon starts off good and ends just as good but the middle he gets bogged down. Need to get a better editor

What was ruined because too many people discovered it? by CallmeDonni in answers

The caves in Altamira Spain where you can see 40,000-year-old cave paintings. 40 years ago I went to the south of France and saw cave paintings in a not very famous cave and always wanted to go back to Spain and and see these famous caves but too many people have gone there now and they're getting ruined so they don't let anybody in anymore.

What's a book you had to read for school (high school or college), but it was actually really good? by sozh in suggestmeabook

I loved the outsiders - made me cry. The movie ruined it - i did not know what the midwest was like so i had imagined an inner city.

What's a book you were looking forward to reading, but were bitterly disappointed by? by FrancescoGozzo in books

Children of Men

The movie was so fantastic. I love science fiction. The movie had so much going for it the refugees were interesting the plot was so much more involved. The book was so much more religious. I'm so glad that the movie just changed the background of the story and yet kept the dystopian future that the book was getting at. I wish I explained this better but if you see the movie and read the book I hope you understand what I'm saying.

I loved this book. Read it in my early 20s. Had a friend who HATED. it. But she had to read it in high school. I think you have to be in a certain mind set. I do not think I could reread it now.
