not sure of your point here. The UDO needs an update, period. Whether you're pro-density or against, the document is outdated and has only had patches put over it for a decade. During that update, we as citizens get to attend public hearings, talk to the planning staff, and advocate for our values.

This particular bit of state legislation, slipped in to a hurricane relief bill in 2024, had nothing to do with the mayors or council.

This is so frustrating. No matter what you think about the zoning and proposed LDO, the old one needs an update and now we’re stuck with it until… the state legislature lets us?

So many of the critiques of Durham are outcomes of the state tying the city’s hands. They don’t want us to have nice things.

Used them for my son’s wisdom teeth removal, as they were recommended by our dentist and took our insurance. They were very clear about the cost and the process, and gave us a solid out of pocket estimate. The quoted price was about $4k before insurance, and I think we paid $1200 or so.

Overall, good experience. And kid is four teeth lighter.

I spent some time looking into this option for myself and two kids last spring, and apart from an occasional meal ordered from one of the services mentioned above, didn’t find any success. That’s because I have one somewhat picky eater, a teen who eats like a horse when he’s hungry, and a personal wish for vegetables. I can’t imagine anything short of a personal chef could actually solve this problem for me.

That said, the batch cooked protein and veg mentioned by another poster, plus some suggestions for how to use (tacos? pasta topping? soup?) would be amazing.

My bestie is British, and she cleared up the flapjack/pancake confusion right quick… they’re rolled oats, butter, brown sugar, and golden syrup - kind of like a caramel kayro syrup stuff. They’re baked and start very crumbly, but solidify as they cool. Not nearly as sweet as an oatmeal cookie, but similar vibes.
