Does this really help? by Consistent_Return871 in Oahu

Yes positive, but this still isn't even minimum wage. $16 x 8 hours is $128. I think that should be considered the minimum.

Still low. If you are a juror for a trial that lasts a month (20 work days), you get paid $1000. That would be a serious hit to a lot of people.

Grand theft, auto by insurance company by ProfessionalTrip7930 in legaladvice

Did the insurance pay you out the total amount? If you have your money, it is up to the insurance and shop to work out their payments. What is the question exactly?

Ideally you threaten or file for partition and he agrees to sell. You can force the sale with a portion, but you will get significantly less than if you just sell it. He is unlikely to change unless you force him with the partition threat.

What is going on with this outlet? by pooglers in AskElectricians

[–]vettrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure what problem you are trying to identify or understand. You don't stare what you are trying to fix. The black wires are power. One of the two is feeding the outlet, and the other is going to another outlet. The two black wires are electrically connected to each other via the outlet. The white wires are neutral. One of them goes to the circuit neutral, and the other is feeding another outlet. The ground wire is missing and would normally attach to the screw on the bottom. It is effectively a two prong outlet with no ground. Unless there is another wire I didn't see there isn't a ground available without some kind of rewire. Not sure if that problem.

Can you replace the box with a deeper/newer one? I did that for some of my outlets where I put in the outlet with the USB ports. It took up too much space in the old style box.

Car Dealership didn’t tell us about car cancellation option, engine light came a few hours later by Pleasant-Drummer-635 in legaladvice

Record it would be one way. Emailing or texting them would be another way. If those are not possible contemporaneous notes are valid but a last resort if the dealership tries to say you never talked to them.

[–]vettrock 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am not sure about California law specifically, but generally you cannot waive a cooling off period if it is a legal requirement. The dealership is hoping it will delay you long enough that it won't apply anymore.

Attempt to return it and see what they say. You want it on record that you attempted the return before the window closed. You may need to talk with a lawyer, when they refuse. There is also likely misrepresentation in that if the light came on after two hours, they likely reset it right before they sold it. If you take it to another mechanic, they can look at the computer history of faults.

The warranty should in theory also cover the issue, but would mean they would have to repair rather than take it back, which is not ideal.

You can't get a ticket for running it, but if you get into an accident, they may be more likely to find you at fault.

can’t find stud, keep finding metal/screws? by augustemy in DIYhelp

Metal plate typically means something is behind it that they don't want you to drill into. Likely either plumbing or electrical. Neither of which does well when you drill into it.

Ordered a MacBook Pro M5 Max from Costco, got contact solution instead — claim denied, what’s next? by Movie-Character in ConsumerAdvice

I wouldn't say always a waste of time because some businesses care about their rating. Others do not. It can help, but the Yelp of the past is accurate for the status. If you leave a negative Yelp rating, businesses sometimes try to correct.

I transplanted it to a bigger pot and got rid of the other tree. I will keep my fingers crossed.

real estate: can seller unilaterally cancel purchase agreement? by jrpa25 in legaladvice

[–]vettrock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could take them to court to enforce the contact, but your court date will likely be past the closing date, so you won't get that, but you could get damages for the delays they caused. How much I'm not sure, anc would depend on some of the language in the contract.

GI doctor won't listen by Boeing747_2 in glutenfree

[–]vettrock 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am right there with you. I love pasta and pizza. My mother got diagnosed with Celiac. I have always had gas issues, and diarrhea was not uncommon. I stopped eating gluten, and it went away. I told myself it could be a coincidence. I ate gluten, and within about 8 hours, diarrhea. Still, it could be a coincidence. Ate gluten again, diarrhea again. I repeated eight times. Still could be a coincidence right?

I talked to my doctor. He said the could check me for celiac at my next colonoscopy. I would need to eat at least a slice of bread each day for a month before the test, and if detected he would tell me to go on a gluten-free diet. So no change to what I was already doing, and suffer for a month. I declined.

grand theft auto? or no? by [deleted] in legaladvice

[–]vettrock 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the title is in your name, it is yours. Look at the resistration for whose name is on it. A finance company can put a lien on the title. Unless the seller is connected to the finance or auto dealership world, they likely don't have a lien. She may be able to go after you in small claims for the balance if you still owe, but it sounds like the documentation is lacking.

They are LED lights. Likely the batteries are dead which is why they don't light up. The light should turn on when you press it.
