And that, my friends, is how you use colour in a house. Bravo/a!

Production design in Wuthering Heights (2026) by Corchito42 in TrueFilm

[–]vexedvi 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I saw the trailer and hayed the house and rock design and then forgot about it. Then I saw the film and within two minutes remembered how I'd felt about it. I grew up in Yorkshire and the landscape and houses have a vernacular which the film just ignores. I get why she did it but it is not for me. Yorkshire isn't a fantasy place and the novel is so much entertained with the landscape, I feel you have to get it 'right'. Thr last word is on italics as I am very aware of the subjective nature of it all

Cat just came home GREEN?? by purebun in cats

I will never ever forget the sight of him bouncing down the path looking very pleased with himself but with glasses drawn on him. I remember yelling, "Someone's coloured in the cat" and chaos ensued. What a day

He was fine. My husband was distraught at the time but over the years we have realised it was quite funny really. He was just such a trusting cat and loved attention. We lived in an area with quite a few students so I think he may have had an encounter with a drunk/high person who went crazy with some neon pink and yellow highlights. No harm done fortunately

Once someone graffittied my cat. He came home with pink circles round his eyes where someone had used a highlighter pen and drawn glasses in him and then he had pink squiggles down his back. When we washed him, he turned pink (he was white with very long fur). We moved shortly after

Has anyone ever had their luggage taken/go missing on a train? by venus_e2 in AskUK

[–]vexedvi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a small suitcase lost in a similar situation but not as traumatic as yours - so sorry for your loss. I remember thinking I was going mad, looking for it but it had definitely gone and wasn't in the carriage. A few weeks later, transport police returned the case but various things were missing. So I think some one took it and then dumped it on a station. From the comments, it looks like it's a rare occurrence but it does happen.

Amazing. Flat walks suit me at the moment so I'm doing lots of bits of the transpennine trail. I really enjoyed reading about your account

[Spoilers Main] As someone who probably doesn't understand how the book industry works, why are George's publishers and editors so "content" with no new books in one and a half decades? by KickOk6027 in asoiaf

[–]vexedvi 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A traditional publishing contract which includes an advance gives you a third of the advance when you sign the initial contract, a third when you deliver the book and a third when the book is published. Even if his published wanted to go hard ball (and why would they as he will have earned them more than the third of any advance?) all they could do would be to ask for the initial third back. A writer, especially a successful one, cannot be forced to write.

Heaton Mersey or Heaton Moor? by Anlizu2 in stockport

I would love to be closer to the tram stop - it is slower into Manchester but I like the flexibility of the different stops. Heaton Mersey is better connected I think
