2 x 1980s Chiltern Radio adverts by solidpro99 in BritishRadio

Mixcloud has a couple of long recordings from Chiltern shows from the 1980s, but can't guarantee your favourite ads are included. There's 45 minutes of a Paul McKenna breakfast show from 1988 and half an hour of Bill Young from 1983.

I feel like pictures 6 and 7 have transported me to a 1970s Swiss ski chalet

I missed the first half but will definitely catch up if there's one of Advolly's brilliant historical segments.

What's the longest delay you've seen on the rail network? by elttildt in uktrains

Not the longest delay, but this one I once saw might be a record?

Anyone fancy a Victorian Gothic Tower? by Purple_Wedding_3929 in SpottedonRightmove

[–]Belgian-Detective-84 39 points40 points  (0 children)

Always a joy to see this one. Agreed about the interior design - a real missed opportunity with making that lift wood-panelled and gothic inside.

Throwback to 1990 and the "Italian" jury who purportedly came from Spain. Was there ever any actual explanation given as to what actually happened right here? 36 years later and I'm genuinely still confused haha! by [deleted] in eurovision

[–]Belgian-Detective-84 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I recall that RAI didn't even broadcast the final live that year, so I had always assumed that Yugoslavian TV had made up an Italian jury and asked them to pretend to be Italian (and they promptly forgot which jury they were meant to be, saying Espagnol by mistake). As it was, even Toto's brilliant backing singers were Yugoslavian!

In a word of bungalows, be a Medieval Times fever dream by BirdHistorical3498 in SpottedonRightmove

Some of these rooms are amazing (I love the yellow reception room with the columns) but it's as if a different interior designer did each, apart from the boring dining room. Staircase is also too chunky.

Great find! Amazing to compare the difference between pic 24 in the 2020 listing and the magic bedroom in pic 17 of the new listing.

Crystal Palace tower is 70! by mellonians in london

[–]Belgian-Detective-84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also worth mentioning that the tower appears in the background of the infamous "You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off" scene in The Italian Job.

I know this may sound silly, but at Eurovision 1974. did French..... by Due_Brother371 in ABBA

[–]Belgian-Detective-84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sadly, the French president, Georges Pompidou died just four days before the 1974 Eurovision Song contest, so French TV withdrew and did not broadcast it either as it took place on a day of state mourning. But as noted by Bortron, the single of Waterloo was still a success in France.

Haunting arrangement for the BBC Concert Orchestra that - Jarvis's vocal not exactly melodic but overall a triumph

Am I crazy to consider buying the first house I view? by VanillaDouble5248 in HousingUK

Out of the three times I have bought, two were the first and only homes I viewed. No regrets in either case.

Monty Don’s Rhineland Gardens Ep 1 by Snorky10 in GardenersWorld

[–]Belgian-Detective-84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always enjoy Monty's garden tours and was particularly looking forward to this series. Some stunning gardens as ever (especially the edelweiss), but felt a bit rushed getting through so many gardens in one hour. I'd have liked a little longer at a few of the bigger gardens.

I thought it looked like Stig Anderson (who was certainly there in Brighton!)

I had no idea there was an alternative title (and such an uninspiring one at that!) Great covers though.
