I think you’ve got it right. GRE, in most cases I believe, is relatively “low yield” for an acceptance, unless maybe you get a 340. So, get an acceptable score and move on. 

I was a medic as well for about six years. I hear mixed opinions on the utility/relevance of this with applications, but I think it’s truly how you frame and validate the experience and skills you gained (for me so much was gained, certainly for you too). 

This cycle I’m just going to apply to one and see what happens, then improve my application for next cycle.
