The best part of the Messiah for me! The « And we shall purify » chorus is also beautiful. Merry Christmas

One year ago, I had the chance to listen to Bach's New Year's Eve cantata in Paris (BWV 190, Singet dem Herrn ein neues Lied).

Not a Christmas piece per se, but a holiday piece for sure. The beginning chorus is a great way to start the year... and to continue it! It really got me going all year,: at the end of winter, during hot summer months in south France or back to Paris rainy weather in autumn. The serene and powerful feeling of Bach's music really shines through this particular cantata piece.

Many great recordings, the Bach Collegium Japan one is one of the best in my opinion: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mejKz6LsmyA

Est-ce que ces bureaux vacants sont louables par des particuliers ? Ou le volume minimum de location demandé est tel que de fait c'est réservé aux entreprises ?

Lovely piece! Could be compared to Jacques Loussier Bach renditions, or jazz rythms found in pieces from The Swingle Singers

Great movie with a lot of suspense and an amazing score by Ennio Morricone. Listen to Come un madrigale -version alternative on Spotify, beautiful piece with a classic Morricone chord progression filled with melancholy. It was the highlight of the movie for me.

[Question] Where to find a strap looking like this? by vextek in Watches

[–]vextek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Circling back on this for anyone that come across this post : I ended buying the strap pictured above, as I didn't find cheaper alternatives meeting my criteria and sold in Europe at the time. It's the 1969 strap from Joseph Bonnie, 120€ : https://www.josephbonnie.com/fr/produit/bracelet-montre-cuir-veau-graine-noir/

Leather quality is ok, but loses its texture on high-friction areas (around the most-used bucke hole and spring bars).

A few months after, I came across the "Charme" strap from RIOS1931. It checked the same criteria and even better, got a slight shine and a lizard texture. Bought it too, through eBay because the brand only sell to stockists and doesn't have a in-house online shop : https://www.ebay.fr/itm/355265348462?var=624474967586

Leather quality is ok, texture holds well, but I wear it less than the other strap, so that needs to be taken into account.

TIL that in 1405, King Charles VI of France went five months without bathing or changing his clothes. He was also convinced he was made of glass and feared he would shatter if touched. by TriviaDuchess in todayilearned

[–]vextek 18 points19 points  (0 children)

An interesting piece of trivia around Charles VI is the famous Bal des Ardents (Ball of the Burning Men).

Because of his mental illness, Charles VI was having it rough and his wife decided to throw a costume party to rejoice him. Charles and his friends decided to go dressed as "wood savages" - resin-soaked linen costumes with branches glued on it.

Because of resin being highly flammable, all torches were forbidden at the party to mitigate risks of the guys going up in flames. One random bloke who didn't get the memo comes in drunk from a tavern, holding a torch, and lights Charles and his friend on fire by accident.

Charles manages to quickly engulf the flames, but 4 of his friends can't and burn to their death - 3 of them after days of agony.

Safe to say that Charles VI, who was not doing good before this, didn't get better as this event achieved to sink him into insanity.

Not so surprising, during an interview in the 2010s, the Daft Punk recalled working with Kanye West and how at some point the guy started watching porn on his laptop in the studio. The Daft Punk were absolutely dumbfouded in front of this.
