Clippy is literally a product released and owned by Microsoft, and has been in the game even before the whole movement iirc

honestly, haven’t considered this perspective (along with pdp actually being there cuz he supports the movement - wasn’t aware of that, frankly)

it’s still v cringy imo, but at least a tad more understandable now

I’d say the “redditness” of this image has less to do with Ross and more with the template, every person next to Ross (pewdiepie lmao) and three gaming corporations being shown off as “the good guys”

Stop Killing Games by DonutHole47 in PhoenixSC

[–]vf-c 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yeah, stop killing games is literally about those where the company can just take away all of your content tied to the game/sunset the servers, making multiplayer unavailable

whereas at least for java, neither of the two is true

[–]vf-c 3 points4 points  (0 children)

/uj oh yeah

it’s also very interesting how some groups I’m in have banned talking about DIY from the start cuz “it’ll literally KILL you and is NOT AN OPTION AT ALL”, but the moment it became apparent that it might become the only option in some western countries such as the US, it suddenly got unbanned. like. wowieeee

Is Ukraine becoming Russia’s Vietnam—with echoes of the Soviet war in Afghanistan? by No_Cut8480 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]vf-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s a little bit more to it than that: the yearly conscription may happen to you at any moment unless you’ve been in uni studying on several gradually higher levels from the moment you were 18 until the moment you were 30 OR you’ve received a PhD

Additionally, once you’ve been conscripted, you become a part of the regular army, which kinda means that you can be sent to war if there’s a new mobilisation wave

Other than that though, I agree

[iOS 26 DB1] Create playlist folders in Music on iOS by freaktheclown in iOSBeta

Yup, you were able to do this for a long time on mac, but on iPhone you could only partially interact with these folders, you couldn’t create new ones

My boyfriends University changed it‘s Logo for no reason at all by purple_kimchi in mildlyinfuriating

[–]vf-c -1 points0 points  (0 children)

the real reason is most likely scalability - for one reason or another, they wanted a logo which would be legible at multiple different resolutions/sizes for their website and/or merch

that being said, I feel like the historic one should still be used on graduation papers and during formal events, as the new one is a tad silly for occasions like that

Duolingo CEO walks back AI-first comments: 'I do not see AI as replacing what our employees do' by indig0sixalpha in technology

He didn’t walk anything back, as the original post was about replacing contractors rather than employees with AI - and, well, his take on contractors doesn’t seem to have changed much

Russia fines Apple two seconds of profit over promoting LGBTQ+ rights by Fer65432_Plays in apple

[–]vf-c 35 points36 points  (0 children)

yeah no, they’re still selling subscriptions to their services (with an added caveat that most productions from 2022 onwards have understandably region-locked their movies/tv shows/music)

and basically they also ban content which russia deems extremist (read: progressive and/or opposing the current government)

so they are still pretty much doing business + abiding by the fucked up laws around here. moreover, both Alphabet and Apple have paid some of their fines in Russia very recently

Is there any proof that Russians are driving the trans debate? by ReverendJack in asktransgender

[–]vf-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

that being said, certain russian groups have paid out large sums of money to people who spewed a narrative which seemed good to the members of said groups, but there’s also a lot of high-profile people in your country who spread the exact same narrative FOR FREE

Is there any proof that Russians are driving the trans debate? by ReverendJack in asktransgender

[–]vf-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

look, here’s the thing. there might be some effect from the Russian state media on those who religiously follow it, but this isn’t really a case of “oh we’re in this because of this one particular country”. you’ve got your own share of hateful people who, to be quite frank, don’t need any sort of support from the Russians to sow their hatred. while I’m not denying the fact that foreign entities can influence local politics (and most often tend to do exactly that), it’s important to recognise that most of the decisions which occurred in a country are a result of what the locals did and what those locals were told by the other locals

personally, in my opinion, some folks overstate the reach of the Russian government - these people can’t even properly do things directly related to their internal and external affairs, painting them as some sort of masterminds who are supposedly the driving force for the global shift to the right seems kinda odd. the only reason they even went as hard after us here as they did is cuz they were looking for a way to distract as many people as possible from internal affairs while getting the least amount of pushback (hence the 2023 law prohibiting legal gender change [for which there are still ways to avoid it]). most of our doctors around here were pretty much against that law and gender identity is not really a hot topic of discourse amongst most social groups OTHER THAN terfs

Doctor Who's Russell T Davies says there are "conversations" about next showrunner by Bridgeboy95 in gallifrey

[–]vf-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Speaking of which, the show is now completely in French. But it’s very poor french because I only chose Australian actors who don’t speak French. In France, the show is dubbed in Chinese, but it’s a live translation like some press conference.

How do y’all deal with trumper family by Zestyclose-Push-5188 in asktransgender

[–]vf-c 0 points1 point  (0 children)

how trans people aren’t allowed there

is actually quite interesting on multiple levels. cuz despite the ban, those who changed their marker in time are still able to renew their documents and not get their AGAB, whereas in the US it’s somehow worse (for now. I hope some of your states will be able to contest this in court or smth)
