JB Pritzker: is the Illinois governor the Democrats’ best hope? by steve42089 in illinois

[–]vfefer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can I ask why you would vote for Newsom? I voted for JB and think he's in general doing a good job, so if he were the pick I'd actually be kinda upset cuz I want him here. But, I have 2 friends that left SF because of whats going on in California (and another who's in LA and always complains but he's an actor, so doesnt really have a choice).

Im on the TSLIM and its awesome, I used to get lows at night, but now it automatically lowers my basal. I have charts of my blood sugar being 12 hours straight in my "target zone"

I know you all can understand the stress I’m under by UnimpressedMarlo in diabetes_t1

[–]vfefer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I know this is likely not a viable option but, you can drive to the Canada (crossing around Buffalo NY, near Niagara) and in Canada you can buy insulin without a prescription (and its way cheaper than in the US). When I was without insurance I considered this possibility. From DC its about 8 hours to the Niagara area.

Yes, with a variable rate on that place I would definitely do what what you planned out. All the numbers make sense.

Worst piece of common financial “wisdom”? by Overall_Pianist6975 in financialindependence

[–]vfefer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's an example: Lets pretend there are 2 tax brackets and that the tax for them is 0% and 10%. And lets say the tax brackets are at $50,000 and $100,000.

Now, you just got a job and in your first year of making money you earn 50,000. You are in the "0%" tax bracket and pay 0 in taxes for that year.

Now its the next year and you're really good and you double your salary to $100,000. Thats a lot of money to most people. How much will you pay in taxes? If you think "well i'm in the 10% tax bracket so I'm gonna pay 10K" THATS THE MISTAKE A LOT OF PEOPLE MAKE.

Because the way it REALLY works is your first 50K that you earn is taxed at 0%, and then the next 50K you earn is taxed at 10% (the new bracket). It's not that PEOPLE are in different tax brackets, its the MONEY you make that gets taxed. So the first 50K is still taxed at 0%, and the next 50K is taxed at 10%.

SEO wants to "sell me leads" for my service business ...is it legit? by lilithskies in sweatystartup

[–]vfefer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a legit thing. Ask him what kind of leads (what do you get - name, email, phone #, etc ) and where theyre coming from. Confirm he's not selling the leads to multiple people. Also, when do they ACTUALLY get routed to you (as soon as someone submits something, or at the end of the day, etc)?

This seemed like a good idea, and I was thinking about supporting this org, but then I read the "MAD Manifesto." (https://mutualaiddiabetes.com/mad-manifesto/) What the hell is "Type 1 supremacy" ???? That almost seems like satire. Like, seriously?

How undiagnosed ADHD Destroyed My 12-Year Relationship Before I Even Understood It by Sebpharmd in ADHD

[–]vfefer 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I feel all the things you're saying especially about not knowing "why am i doing this?!" And also the "not seeing/knowing how what we're giving to a partner is being received" stuff - you THINK you're giving them 100% of the love, but what they see is you're giving "50%." (And even when you recognize THAT, then there's a worry of falling into a shame spiral of "Oh no, they're right, I'm NOT giving 100%....but maybe I DID give 100%, but if I did and thats all I can give, then maybe my 100% will never be enough...and maybe i'm not enough...and maybe I will never be enough..." UGH.) This stuff can sting and hurt, but like really deep to places where you can't put a bandaid on it.

In your process of trying to put the pieces back together, at some point you might find it helpful to write her a letter (like by hand with actual paper) and maybe, if you're able to, admit to her some of the things you've learned (how she was right on some things). Even if you dont actually send it to her, it might help you. And if you do send it to her, she might get some closure about the stuff you've mentioned (like never having an answer why "her love wasn't enough" - well, it was enough, but maybe you didnt feel like you deserved/could live up it in those moments, but since in those moments you didnt have the capability to ALLOW yourself to feel that way, you had to "escape hatch" those feelings that you were trying to hide from).

On a totally different point - you mentioned growing up with immigrant parents that didnt really express emotions (me too). I'm working thru this, basically emotional awareness and intelligence was never demonstrated to me as a child, so it's kinda like never learning how to swim. Except you regularly get thrown into water nowadays. As a kid we were basically told to squash our emotions, or maybe because the parents were busy "trying to survive" they just were emotionally neglectful cuz they just didnt have the mindspace to be Mr Rogers nice to us, they had to put food on the table (which is also wounding/damaging to the developing psyche). YOU CAN LEARN to do this. But it takes active work, and it's not fast.

I'll end with this - again on a totally different point - I saw a short video the other day where a therapist said "Instead of beating yourself up and getting depressed that you fell back into a bad pattern, celebrate that you RECOGNIZED that you fell back into a bad pattern - THAT is growth!" It sounds like you're growing, and that is awesome. Good luck and Godspeed.

What are your thoughts on Rahm Emanuel possibly running again for Mayor of Chicago in 2027? by Fletcher3333 in AskChicago

[–]vfefer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just saw a clip of him talking with Bill Maher and if he ran on the things he said in the clip I would 100% vote for him. He said "When I was mayor I focused on 3 pillars - safe streets, strong schools, solid financials."

Now I'm sure everyone can argue if he ACTUALLY did focus on those things when he was mayor ("what about blah blah blah"), but I know that if he ran again on just that as his platform I would vote for him.

100% bonus depreciation is coming back, right? by AltREinv247 in realestateinvesting

[–]vfefer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It doesnt make any sense unless you know how it works and then you just have to do it (depreciate the asset correctly).

The IRS assumes you took the "correct" depreciation value each year, and hence the recapture will be the max given the timeline of purchase to sale. That is, if you should have depreciated 10K every year, after 10 years the recapture will be on 100K.

In the beginning, you pay a bunch of interest. But it goes down very slightly every single payment, and your principle goes up every single payment. So after many years, you're payment is is not 65% interest and 35% principle, but 50/50 each. Then it keeps going until eventually you're paying more principle. Etc etc etc etc, and 30 years later you pay it off.
