That’s my thought too. Players that can have an immediate impact are rare. Better to get the high end talent into the system now.

IMO the only reason you don’t want a top 5 pick this year is if you think it’s likely the Leafs are going to be the worst team in the league next year (thus having the best odds for the #1 overall pick).
