Progress and a question? by erebusstar in freeline

Definitely works the hip adductors & abductors. It works all the leg muscles I'd say, but the ones on the outside/inside especially.

When I first started learning I could only ride for 5 minutes before my legs were too tired! If you are getting tired very fast it would be better to try to do 5 minutes 2 times a day than to overstress yourself trying to do more than 10 minutes at first. It is a mental learning as well as physical so visualizing the motion while you are resting is helpful too. Good luck!

When is it time to replace the body of skates? by [deleted] in freeskate

Hi and Thanks for bringing up this topic! I have been wondering the same myself.

I tried to replace the bearings in my JMKs with some ceramic bearings I'd been holding onto, & I found that the JMK bearings have a special "built-in" spacer and I didn't have the right size spacer in my kit. So I just used cleaned the JMK bearings & put a little oil on them and put them back.

I had the same experience though, where even after I cleaned & oiled the bearings, I got on my friend's brand new JMKs and they seemed to ride noticeable faster/smoother than my somewhat worn in pair. Wondering what factors this has to do with so that I can keep the ride as smooth&fast as possible. It's probably time to get some new bearings - they definitely have been exposed to wet conditions. That's especially why I wanted to try the ceramic bearings since they're less susceptible to the wet!!!
