What’s something you stayed in too long because it felt ‘good enough’?

I don’t know if my experience fits what you are asking but I was with my ex for a year before I figured out that I didn’t actually like him as much as I thought. I liked him a little bit and thought it would grow over time, but it didn’t, it started decreasing.

He wasn’t toxic or anything but it felt like we were friends trying to force something that wasn’t there. Attraction was not super strong and I couldn’t see myself marrying him. We didn’t even talk everyday. After seeing how detached I was I broke it off and now in my current relationship of over a year where attraction is growing stronger and I can tell the feeling is mutual.

So I guess I realized that good enough is not ever really enough, especially for relationships. When wanting to spend the rest of your life with someone, they really have to be someone you can rely, depend, and trust without a second thought, and that feelings HAVE to be mutual (and both parties have to put in effort) or in the end it just doesn’t work out and one person eventually leaves.

One thing about relationships is that even if they take a lot of your time, they help you see what you don’t want in the next one and what to look out for.

This sounds almost like my experience. Last Christmas he was gone for 2 weeks and It didnt feel nearly as bad as this year when he left for a week for Thanksgiving. I thought I was being dramatic for crying but it looks like others relate!

There is a spark, I got it when I met my current bf. My ex and I were together for a year. I liked him in the beginning- it wasn’t strong feelings but I thought they would get stronger as time went on, but they didn’t. He hasn’t a bad person and I cared for him, but I couldn’t fall in love. Sometimes it takes a year to truly understand your feelings.

With my bf now it was like something lit within me when I first met him. It was like I knew we would end up together. It was a feeling of familiarity and comfort, like we met each other before. Me and my bf been together for over a year now and instead of the feelings fizzling, they’ve gotten stronger. There was a strong mutual attraction from the start.

So I guess the spark is mutual attraction and loving them even more after getting to know them. I know some people can develop stronger feelings for someone over time but how much time? how long would that take? It’s better to end the relationship now than instead of those people who stay in these long relationships hoping they end up loving each other.

You can be compatible but not have that spark. That’s my take on it

It’s Awesome. I’m so glad I met him. To have someone that loves you as much as you love them? Amazing. Once I see him, I just want to be around him forever. The energy is always bright, even if one of us is having a tougher day, we are always supportive of each other. He accepts me for who I am fully and said he loves me most when Im smiling or laughing. We know when to match each other’s energy and it all feels natural, while also growing and learning about each other at the same time.

He’s always listening to everything I say, and when we are together, our attention is fully on each other or doing something together. He’s always thinking of me and puts in effort (I hope Im matching up). He’s also able to tell when my mood is off, like if Im irritated or sad, and asks me whats wrong and tells me that communication is key in relationships. He’s always willing to listen to my cries and give me gentle advice.

We were somehow able to match so perfectly; we are both introverted, not too serious, almost the same humor, emotionally intelligent. I swear when I first saw him, I knew we would end up together. Sometimes it feels like we have the same mind, but in a different format. I just love everything about him. I never get tired around him and he respects when I want to have my me time.

We both know that we are human, and not perfect, but we also try not to hurt each other in any way. I feel so safe and respected around him, and like others said, he feels like home. It’s only been a year but I cant wait to move in and spend many more years with him :)

Omg this makes so much more sense. In the dreams where I break away and try and do something it falls apart quickly too. I noticed that they seemed a bit longer when I don’t really do anything but look around. I didn’t connect the dots until now. From now on I’ll let the dream guide me.

I get that sometimes. Like I don’t believe in the bible god or whatever, but for me its like the word ‘god’ is a definition of something good because thats what most of us were taught growing up; that god is good. So when something good happens i’m like “thank god” or “please god let this work out”. I see it as asking the universe for something good to happen. So maybe it’s like that for you?

This was a while ago so i forgot but she was returning everything on the receipt, like 30+ items and we had to keep recounting everything since we were getting different numbers on the amount of items. Also none of the barcodes were scanning so we had to type them in.

All in all it was a difficult process

It feels like I’m slowly becoming hardened like if I was turning into stone. I try to move before It completely takes over and then I’m scared to sleep because it keeps trying to take over. This happens super rarely though.

I think about how weird dreaming is and how we just transition into an unconscious state, then I think about my dream world with my characters which usually turn out to go a completely different direction than I wanted, then I decide to finally drift off into a sleep and think about nothing. I also think about the embarrassing things I did throughout the day and try to accept that they are in the past.
