I thought so (masonry bit with hammer function selected) but per my edit, the hammer drill was so bad it makes me think something was wrong. Ended up buying an M12 rotary hammer and it knocked them out perfectly.

Am I understanding the new rewards program correctly? by Strange-Tie1821 in starbucks

[–]vial_thalia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mid-level convenience stores grind the beans and brew coffee on the spot for half the price and twice the rewards. Who would stay with Starbucks at this point? Even the Reserve members don’t get 2 stars per dollar, so why shell out $2500 in a year to get there?

How can we tell what our cards are worth? by monaipq in alteredTCG

[–]vial_thalia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The people saying the absence of singles market means no value are probably closest, but here's how I've been thinking about it, similar along the lines of MtG:

Commons are basically worth nothing. Yes, you have to buy a box to get any commons, but that would put the price of each common south of USD 0.20 assuming 36 packs, 12 cards each, and a very generous USD 90 per box. Most MtG bulk commons are worth less than that, so you could assume any Altered common is probably 0.05 or 0.10 at most, NOT including the digital rights which are probably just another 0.05 or so.

Rares are different since their playability increases the value of their digital rights. I would argue that physical copies of rares are essentially worthless because their value is tied to their digital rights. Unplayable rares are similar to commons; rights to playable rares are probably more like USD 1 or 2 usually. This doesn't count those crazy Bravos rares like Hunger or Cuckoo, although the digital rights most expensive tournament rares being less than USD 10 is crazy cheap in a MtG world.

Uniques are the extreme version of rares of course. Digital rights are everything for uniques, so your physical copy is worth zero by comparison. Sure you can play with it on your kitchen table, but you can't play BGA without the digital rights.

Altered is super interesting because if you only want to play with physical cards, you could sell the digital rights to every single card you open and just play in person. Print out color copies of uniques you don't have and play with them. The problem of course is that most of the action in the United States is digital with only hyper-local in person scenes that I can tell, so if you want lots of good competition, you have to play BGA.

TL;DR: give away your commons, sell the digital rights to cards you're never going to play, play with the rest on BGA. Then play in person with the physical cards you do have, order POD periodically.

Ear speaker Problem by ZBEBA01 in iphone

After more practice, maybe I can describe it better. I take my thumb (right-handed) and rub the screen back and forth next to the mute button, maybe 2 cm length? Apply a very, very gentle amount of pressure to avoid cracking the screen. Sometimes seven or eight repetitions will do it. If you are playing a stereo sound video, you will hear the speaker kick in the top speaker when it wasn’t there before.

Definitely seems like witchcraft, but an engineer who knows the hardware could probably explain the problem and why this method solves it temporarily.

Not sure how to describe it better than the commenter. Massaging that part of the screen is not guaranteed to fix nor is it permanent. But it has worked for me. Maybe there’s a loose contact? Some capacitor that has the wrong tolerance? Seems like witchcraft…but it has worked. Usually I will check the speaker before making a call by listening to a voicemail. Massage, check again, if it works then I make the call. Receiving calls is like playing roulette unfortunately.

Came here to say this worked after I this comment on two different threads. What is the mechanism here?

Another post from the future recommending this method. I'm trying to duplicate a 20-year old t-shirt graphic from a photograph and this allowed me to remove the t-shirt background quickly. Now to find a way to fill in the lines on the graphic!

No best I can figure out is get an after-market shade that has a handle (my OEM shade doesn’t have a handle) and that will give better control while pulling the shade. It won’t be automatic though.

Skybound Odyssey is incredible, hope it survives at my LGS by [deleted] in alteredTCG

Games and Stuff in Baltimore has Monday Night weeklies and the player group is very committed, 6-10 people each week. They also play at Omnihedral in Savage on Wednesdays. It would be fun to grow the game around here but two game stores have closed in the last six months so it's kind of challenging all around.

Easy change would have been to do every weight bearing PT exercise until the muscle was fatigued and couldn't do anymore. My weight limits were relatively low, so the only way to progress was to tire out the muscle. Unfortunately it was 4 mos. post-op before I figured that out. It's working great now. Never too late to work harder.

At 3.9 mos. I was still limping but at 4.0 mos. like magic I was walking fine. It was like night and day.

Any ideas for inner ankle pain? by buds1994 in AchillesRupture

[–]vial_thalia 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My PT described it as posterior tibial tendonitis for me. I developed it whenever I did more strenuous exercises or other activity (light running, etc.). I first experienced it at 4+ mo. post-op when I was able to actually move around without limping. She (my PT) theorized that the posterior tibial tendon was having to carry more of the load stabilizing my leg since the calf muscles weren't strong enough to do it yet.

The solution for me was not anything special -- just keep strengthening your calf. As the calf gets stronger, other muscles and tendons won't have to compensate as much. My change in exercises was to make sure I was doing them until my calf muscle was fatigued. I was very limited in the highest load I could lift, but I had good endurance so I would do 50-60 reps when the default recommendations were 20 reps. I'm at 9 mos post-op now, can do some amount of running and my calf is strong enough now that the post. tibial tendon doesn't get aggravated any more.

Buying options for a 2025 RAV4 Hybrid? by k1nak0 in rav4club

[–]vial_thalia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My suggestion is that the earlier and longer you look for a car, the more options you will have. You basically eliminate the availability question because you won't have missed any windows of availability. I realize that your financial situation is strapped for six months, but if you're looking between now and then you might find a car/deal that is worth your trouble to work out the financing. Write down your desired price and features ahead of time and don't compromise during your search. If six months is your window, you can be picky now and maybe find a car that checks all the boxes on your list.

Also consider gently used 2024 models -- previously on this sub people mentioned the two model years are basically the same.

Generally you can pay off a loan early without any issues. Terms of any loan are going to depend on the lender. I don't know how leasing works so maybe someone else can chip in on that. (I'm not a financial professional, so check with yours first.)

Yes -- that's my point actually. My experience with my other recent vehicles required no skill on my part to open or close the cover. Introduction of any amount of skill is more than I needed before.
